Tax rules continue to shape retirement planning in 2026.
For this tax year, the standard deduction is $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly. Taxpayers age 65 and older may also qualify for an additional $6,000 senior deduction per person, subject to income limits.
These changes do not automatically mean your tax bill will go down. The effect depends on your income, filing status, retirement withdrawals, and other deductions.
If you’re retired or approaching retirement, this is a good time to review how current tax rules fit into your broader income strategy.
