Should you pay off debt or invest for the future?

General financial principles can help guide the decision, but no single answer fits everyone. The right approach depends on your income, tax situation, and cash flow.

Understanding how these factors work together can help you make more informed financial decisions.

Here's a tax strategy that rewards planning years in advance: QSBS. 🚀

Qualified Small Business Stock can let founders, early employees, and investors exclude a significant portion — sometimes all — of their gain when they eventually sell their stock. Depending on when the stock was issued, that exclusion can be 50%, 75%, or even 100%.

The catch? It's not automatic, and timing matters as much as eligibility:

✔ Stock generally must come from a domestic C-corporation
✔ It must be acquired at original issuance, not purchased later
✔ It typically must be held for more than 5 years

By the time a company is preparing for a sale, it's often too late to restructure in a way that preserves this benefit. That's why QSBS needs to be part of the conversation early — not a last-minute bonus.

Building a business with a long runway and an eventual exit in mind? Let's talk about whether QSBS should be part of your planning. Visit us at www.fiducial.com/consultations.

Here's a deduction a lot of homeowners miss when they refinance for a second (or third) time. 🏡

If you previously refinanced and paid points, those points likely got spread out — a little bit deducted each year over the life of that loan.

Now if you refinance again with a DIFFERENT lender, here's the good news: any leftover, un-deducted points from your old refinance may generally become fully deductible in the year that old loan gets paid off.

Refinance with the SAME lender instead? Those leftover points typically don't get released right away — they carry forward and continue amortizing over your new loan.

It's a detail that's easy to miss because it won't show up clearly on your new mortgage statement. It requires looking back at your prior refinance records.

Refinancing soon? Before you finalize anything, let's check whether you're sitting on a deduction from a prior loan. Reach out at www.Fiducial.com/consultations.

For many business owners, succession planning ranks among the most important decisions they'll ever make — yet most owners delay it until they're nearing retirement, facing health problems, or reacting to a crisis. By then, it's usually too late.

🍂 Welcome, Autumn! Sweater weather, pumpkin everything, and cozy nights officially start today.

Fall also marks the unofficial start of "get your finances in order before year-end" season. As the leaves change, it's a great time to check in on withholding, retirement contributions, and any tax moves worth making before December sneaks up on you. ☕📚

But today? Just enjoy the season. Happy first day of fall from all of us at Fiducial!

Backpacks, before-care, after-school pickup, daycare bills — back-to-school season gets expensive fast. But two tax breaks can help offset the cost of care your kids need so you can work. 🎒

Dependent Care FSA: Set aside up to $7,500 pre-tax in 2026 (up from $5,000) to pay for daycare, before/after-school programs, and day camps.

Child & Dependent Care Credit: Even without an FSA, you may be able to claim a credit worth 20–50% of up to $6,000 in care expenses for two or more kids.

The catch? You can't double-dip on the same dollars — coordinating the two takes some planning. Before/after-school programs and licensed day camps generally qualify; overnight camp and summer school don't.

If your family is juggling new childcare costs this fall, it may be worth a quick check-in to make sure you're capturing every tax break available. We can help you sort out what qualifies. 🍎
