It's that time again....it's TAX TIME!

Yes, once again, we crazy people who enjoy doing taxes are busy at work.

Some things to keep in mind this year:

The IRS sent out letters telling you how much you received for the third Economic Impact Payment last spring. If you filed a joint return, they divided the payment in half and sent a letter to each of you. You'll need both letters to file an accurate return.

The IRS also sent letters if you received the Advance Child Tax Credit payments. Again..they sent two letters if you filed a joint return in 2020.

Without these letters, it would be very easy to use the wrong amounts on your return...and this will be very bad! Your refund will be delayed until they can reconcile your return to their records. And as busy as they are...who knows how long that will take.

So find those letters and take them to your tax preparer!

Happy Tax Season!!

Know what today is??? It's the start of tax filing season!! Ok, call me crazy, but I like doing taxes!

If you're looking for a new tax accountant, I'd love to help you out this year. My rates are very reasonable...because...fun!

I'm preparing returns virtually this year. Safe, and efficient for both of us. You can upload your documents to a secure portal, and receive your copy of the return back the same way. I'll e-file the return, and you can choose to receive a check or to have your refund deposited directly to your bank account.

Give me a call, or send an email, to set up an appointment!

Sorry, Washington and Oregon residents only!

Are you retired military? DFAS made a mistake when issuing the 1099-Rs this year, omitting part of the Employer Identification Number (EIN). New forms are being mailed out. You will need the one to file your taxes...it's not a duplicate!

If you are required to make estimated tax payments, don't forget the 4th quarter 2020 payment is due tomorrow! If you are self-employed, and plan on deferring part of your self-employment tax, check with your accountant before making this last payment. The total estimated payments for the year will impact the amount you can defer!

It's time to start thinking about filing taxes for 2020. For many of us, this year was very different and our tax situation will be too. Check out this information from the IRS...

Steps to Take Now to Get a Jump on Next Year’s Taxes

Are you a Washington resident who works in Oregon? Have you been working from home this year?

Keep track of the total number of days you work this year, and the number of days you worked from home. You are entitled to allocate your salary between Oregon and Washington, likely resulting in a larger refund of Oregon taxes!

In January, the IRS Identity Protection PIN Opt-In Program will be expanded to all taxpayers who can properly verify their identity.

You will need the following information to apply and receive an immediate PIN:
Email Address
SSN or ITN
Tax filing status and mailing address
One financial account number linked to your name
Mobile phone number linked to your name

Alternatives will be available for those unable to provide the above information.

The number will be valid for one year. Each January, the taxpayer must get a new one.

This is a great way to protect your tax identity and prevent others from filing fraudulent tax returns in your name/SSN.

A new change in tax law this year relates to charitable contributions. For 2020 only, taxpayers who do not itemize are eligible to deduct up to $300 of cash contributions. This is per return, so married and single taxpayers are both eligible to deduct $300. Be sure to keep your receipts!

Welcome to my new page! I've decided that retirement is boring, so I'm expanding my practice to include both income tax preparation and forensic accounting services. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
