File your taxes ASAP! The last time the federal government gave a stimulus check they did it by using the most recent or prior year tax information. If you are retired or on social security and are not required to file taxes, they will use the most recent 1099SSA or 1099R. By this asumption you will NOT need to file any additional information or fill out a form. So dont fall for online application or phone calls from scammers.

Over the past 48 hours, many have speculated changes to the tax filing and payment deadlines. Today the U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS cleared the air and released guidance on the tax implications of COVID-19. The deadline to file federal individual income tax returns remains April 15.

All individual and other non-corporate tax filers are allowed to defer tax payments (up to $1 million) until July 15, 2020 without penalties or interest
