It's not about the extra day off, the big sales, or even the BBQs.
I am grateful for our beautiful country, flaws and all. And I am grateful for the men, women, and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Holiday weekends are a popular time for stores to have sales. By promoting big savings during a short time period, stores create a sense of urgency in buyers to act quickly.
Never buy anything because you're feeling the pressure of a time-sensitive sale or fear of missing out. Before making any purchase, you should always make sure that the item suits your needs and is within your budget (and of course, you can pay in full - never finance).
These holiday sales events can be a really great way to save money if you already had a need (not buying just because there is a sale), you planned ahead and can make a calm, rational decision.

My heart is broken for the employees at Spirit Airlines, but especially the pilots.

I became a financial coach because I know what it means to be an aviation family with high highs and low lows.
After years of building a career with furloughs, layoffs, and the required pay cut every time you wanted to move up, all while carrying debt and trying to do what's best for your family I knew something had to change.
I have survived several mergers and furloughs. And its hard to make those tough decisions of moving on to bigger and better jobs when the first year or two came with such a salary decreased. But short term sacrifices were necessary in order to make big dreams come true.

We had to get out of debt! We made a lot of sacrifices for a long time to get there, but the peace and freedom it brought was worth it.
The freedom of knowing you are in control of your future and finances makes these moments like today a little easier to face.

I am offering half price financial coaching services to any Spirit pilot who wants help with monthly budgeting, learning which bills to prioritize, getting creative with limited income, how to pay down debt and make any savings last as long as possible. When making May's budget, remember Mother's Day is on the 10th!
This is also a friendly reminder to all the men out there to start shopping for the moms in your life.

Top things moms want:
- mani/pedi
- massage (the professional kind)
- jewelry

More budget friendly gifts:
- let them sleep in
- do all the cooking
- clean the house
- go for a family walk or picnic
- take the kids and leave her alone for several hours (this one is my personal favorite)

~ Refuse what you don't need (save you money)
~ Reduce what you use (saves you money)
~ Reuse what you have (saves you money)
~ Repair what breaks (cheaper than buying new and saves you money)
~ Recycle the rest

You guys! When I started helping people with their finances three years ago I made a goal to make enough money to give back to organizations that are important to me. This is my first year to actually be able to do it ❤️ I've partnered with Creating Abundant Life over the years by hosting financial classes and one-on-one counseling for their Mamas.
