😃 Today's event was enlightening to say the least. Thank you to all who joined! The next event is tentatively scheduled on 9/4 at 6:00 p.m. Save the date! Here are my key takeaways from today:

💼 Job Retraining: Over a billion people will need retraining by 2030 due to AI, with 800 million jobs potentially disrupted globally.

⚙ Small AI Models: Meta made the astute decision to embrace "let's not have giants having the only source of truth for these AIs." Small Llama models and their derivatives are so small and efficient now that you can put them on your cell phone. You can put a whole wealth of knowledge on it, and it will run with no internet connection.

This leads to companies creating their own data sets that are local and behind the firewalls. And then they'll pull in the smaller AI models that can interact with that data and still provide nearly the same results. OpenAI will come out with some great feature, and then two weeks later the open-source small model community will go, 'We hit parity with what they've done,' and you can run it on a MacBook"

🔐 Security and Privacy: With AI's rapid advancements come concerns about security and privacy. Local small models can help big companies protect data by running AI applications on their own secure infrastructure. Issues such as phishing, deep fakes, and the potential misuse of AI for fraudulent activities were discussed, emphasizing the need for robust security measures. 💻 Software Development Impact: AI will significantly impact software development. Developers might become orchestrators, using AI to handle repetitive tasks, while still recognizing that AI is not yet capable of creating new things from scratch (yet).

📈 Productivity Boost: AI can reduce costs and increase productivity by automating tasks like translation and providing 24/7 assistance for learners, freeing educators to focus on teaching.

👩‍💻 Workforce Adaptation: Retraining the workforce is crucial. Companies must invest in educating employees on AI tools and best practices to stay competitive and secure.

Big news today. 👀Rate cuts are on the horizon!

This reminds us of the mid-1990’s bull market when the Fed cut rates in the middle of an economic expansion with inflation steady in the 2-3% range. What happened after the July 1995 rate cut? The S&P 500 index doubled in a short 3-year period!

💲The 401(k) max will be $23,000 and the IRA max increases to $7,000 next year. Regardless of your ability to max out, it is smart to pay yourself first in retirement accounts!

IR-2023-203, Nov. 1, 2023 — The Internal Revenue Service announced today that the amount individuals can contribute to their 401(k) plans in 2024 has increased to $23,000, up from $22,500 for 2023.

🏈 A halftime scorecard for Q3 earnings

💲78% of S&P500 companies are reporting earnings upside vs. expectations.

💵 Earnings growth stands at 3%. If sustained, it will be the first positive year-over-year quarter for the S&P500 since Q3 2022. Excluding energy, earnings are up over 8%!

🤠 Outlooks for Q4 2023 earnings are somewhat weak. There are 2x as many companies issuing negative earnings guidance vs. those issuing positive outlooks.

📉 The S&P500 Price-to-earnings ratio is 17.1x which is a 9% discount to the 5-year average.
