Those who know me best know how deep my love for motorsports runs. Maybe I inherited it from my dad, or maybe it grew from my years as a mechanic and my appreciation for engineering and performance. Whatever the reason, there's just something about a fast car being pushed right to the edge that has always captivated me.

This weekend is one of my favorite events of the year: The Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar, and even F1 come together for a 24‑hour test of speed, endurance, and teamwork. The crazy part? The fastest car usually doesn't win. It's the team that stays consistent, avoids setbacks, and makes smart decisions lap after lap that takes the checkered flag.

Financial planning works the same way.

You might have the "hottest" investment for a moment, but that doesn't mean it will carry you to long‑term success. Markets change. Conditions shift. What matters is having a team that monitors the gauges, spots issues early, and helps you make adjustments before problems become failures.

That's what we do at Raymond James.

We can't predict the future, but we can help you understand what's happening in the market and give you the information you need to make smart decisions for you and your family.

This weekend, I'll be pulling for the #31 Cadillac to bring home the overall win.
And I'd love the chance to help you reach your financial finish line, too.

If you have questions or want to see what it looks like to work with a Financial Advisor, give me a call: 205‑799‑5606.

From Battleship to Balance Sheets: Strategy That Stands the Test of Time

Strategy... sometimes we have one, and sometimes we don't.

Battleship was one of my favorite games growing up. I used to play it with my step-grandfather, who served in the Navy during WWII. He spent most of the war below deck in the engine room, but he understood his role in the greater strategy of the Pacific Theater.

The best part of staying with him and my grandmother was sitting around their small kitchen table late into the night—talking about the war and playing games like Battleship.

Now, I get to play the game with my own children.

I never served in the Armed Forces, but I can still teach my kids about strategy—just like it was taught to me: through trial and error.

I told my son not to put all his ships next to each other. Did he listen? You be the judge. 😄

Now, I help people with strategy every day. But when it comes to investment strategy, we don't rely on trial and error.

Instead, we focus on what matters most to the client. We build a strategy around their goals, research and analyze options, and present the pros and cons clearly. My goal is to make sure they not only have the best information—but that they understand it.

If I do my job well, they'll have the tools and confidence to implement and stick to their strategy.
Investments are a lot like Battleship: you don't want all your ships in one spot. Diversification matters.

If you'd like a second opinion on your investment strategy—or if you're just getting started—give me a call at 205-799-5606. I'd be happy to go below deck and make sure the engine is running as it should.

20 years ago today, Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast. The storm ravaged several cities and communities and left millions in worse conditions than they were the day before.

I can remember watching news coverage in history class each day following the storm. Mr. Gober understood the significance of this event, even for us in Tuscaloosa.

Little did I know at the time, but this storm would affect my future home most of all... New Orleans

New Orleans is known around the world as "The Big Easy". I was even on a History Channel TV show called "Big Easy Motors" in 2016. Despite that, New Orleans is not an easy place to live.

Since Bienville and Iberville set up camp on the banks of the Mississippi, it has been a hard place to live. You know what they say, hard times make great people, and New Orleans has the greatest of them all.

The music, food, culture, hospitality, and attitude of New Orleanians are unmatched anywhere else in the world. I will die on that hill.

It is a place refined by tragedy and hardship. A place that left Louis Armstrong to write a song like "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans" while living in Chicago. A song that anyone who has left New Orleans understands and finds themselves humming under their breath from time to time.

We called this beautiful place home for nearly a decade. Three of our five children were born there. In many ways, it will always be home to us.

One of the greatest privileges of our time in the city was owning our home in the Lower 9th Ward. Our home was across from the levee, about 6 blocks from where it ruptured following Katrina's storm surge. Pictured below are two pictures of that house. One was taken by the previous owner once they were able to get back into the city following the storm. The second was taken when we listed the home for sale when we moved away.

This was our place of refuge. A place full of people seeking respite from the toils of life. A place that tattooed our souls.

I could go on for days talking about this great city and the great people who inhabit it, but... to paraphrase Tennessee Williams-

"New Orleans is a place where an hour isn't just an hour - it is a little piece of eternity dropped into your hands...and who knows what to do with it..."

One of the perks of having a pond on your property is getting to cast a line on a random weekday evening. That is exactly what I did yesterday and was able to snag this little guy.

As many fishermen know, you don't catch trophy fish often. Sometimes you are just excited to get a bite...

But when you get that tug on the other end of the line and the hook sets, you get as excited as the first time. It gives you just enough to make you want to keep casting.

I say all of that to say, I don't know what is going on in your personal or professional lives, but keep casting. If things are going great, throw another line because the next catch could be better than the previous. Maybe you haven't caught anything in a while, but if you stop now, you won't catch anything.

Take some time to cast a line today; you never know what you might catch.

Question for you, how do your values affect how you invest and what you invest?

I had a conversation recently with a gentleman who owns a local feed and supply store. I commented on needing to stop by a big box grocery store to pick up a few things. I could tell that he was unsettled by my comment, so I dug a little deeper to understand what he felt and why.

Turns out that this particular grocery store chain has mistreated many of the people he serves, primarily farmers and ranchers. As soon as he said that, I understood. He values people and their ability to provide for themselves and their community. In this particular case, that means providing high-quality meat and vegetables to the surrounding area.

Because of his values, he cannot bring himself to invest time or money in this particular grocery chain.

We all do the same thing. It might not be a grocery store, but there is something that we will not invest in because of a personal reason. Not only is this true concerning our time, but it is true of how we invest our money as well.

A big part of my day-to-day is helping build investment strategies for my clients. The first step to building an investment strategy for someone is to understand their values. I want to try and understand how they see the world, what bothers them, and what gets them excited. If I can do that, then I can form a solid baseline from which to build a tailor-made strategy just for that client.

Investments are not one size fits all. You need to work with someone who will listen, take your thoughts and concerns into consideration, and put a plan together that is respectful of your values, helps achieve your goals, and mitigates your fears. If you would like to work together to build an investment strategy custom to you and your situation, give me a call at 205-799-5606. I am happy to hear you out and help in any way that I can.

The market is extremely volatile at the moment and most people are looking for some sense of security.

Diversification is the answer!

Diversification is something that we have all heard about but how do you know if you are doing it the right way?

Having several different stocks in different asset classes can be helpful to protect against certain types of risk but it isn't the best protection in a time like this.

There are several other options and I am here to help walk you through this time. Let's set aside some to talk through what you are currently doing and some things that we can do to make it better.
