Important update for those claiming the Earned Income Credit (EIC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC):

The IRS will not process refunds with these credits until after February 15, 2025. The earliest you can expect your refund (if you opted for direct deposit or a debit card) is February 27, 2025.

This delay is due to federal requirements designed to prevent identity theft and fraud.

If you have any questions or need help preparing your taxes, I’m here to assist you—let’s get everything filed and ready to go! Message me to book your appointment.

🚨 Tax Tip Alert 🚨

For those of you avoiding filing your taxes because you owe money, it’s time to stop delaying! Filing late doesn’t make the problem go away—it actually makes it worse.

Delaying your taxes can result in interest and penalties piling up, making what you owe even more expensive. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to manage.

👉 What you need to do:
1️⃣ File your taxes ASAP—even if you can’t pay in full.
2️⃣ Start making payments to the IRS as soon as possible to reduce your balance and avoid additional interest.
3️⃣ File before April 15th to avoid late filing penalties altogether!

You’d be surprised how many people I’ve spoken to who owe taxes and decide not to file at all. Trust me, filing now is always better than waiting. Don’t dig yourself into a deeper hole. Take action today—you’ll thank yourself later!

💡 Need help or have questions about filing? Feel free to reach out. I’m here to guide you through the process and help you stay on track.

🚨🚨Why do self-employed people pay more taxes than W-2 employees?

When you’re self-employed, you act as both the employer and the employee. This means you have to pay both halves of Social Security and Medicare taxes, known as the self-employment tax (15.3%).

For W-2 employees, their employer pays half of these taxes (7.65%), and the employee pays the other half. But as a self-employed person, you’re responsible for the full amount yourself.

Another key difference? When you’re self-employed, no federal income taxes are automatically withheld from your income like they are for W-2 employees. Unless you make quarterly estimated tax payments, you could end up owing a large amount at tax time because nothing was prepaid throughout the year.

The good news: self-employed people can deduct the employer portion of the self-employment tax (7.65%) when calculating their income taxes, which can help offset some of the burden.

In short, being self-employed means you’re your own boss — but that also means you take on all the tax responsibilities that employers usually handle for their employees.🚨🚨

💡 Tax Reminder for 2025 💡
If you made $37K this year and had no federal taxes withheld, you will likely owe the IRS when filing your return (without dependents). Remember, everyone is required to pay taxes on their income, regardless of the withholding status throughout the year.

⚠️ Important Notes:
• Choosing “exempt” on your W-4 form means no taxes are withheld, but this does not exempt you from paying taxes. Be prepared to pay when you file your return.
• If you claim dependents, your refund may be lower than someone who had taxes withheld all year.

💼 Planning ahead and staying informed can help avoid surprises at tax time. If you need assistance with tax planning or understanding your withholding, feel free to reach out!!
