Important Notice Regarding IRS Letter CP53E
If you have received a CP53E notice from the IRS, please note that many taxpayers have received this letter this year. This notice relates to Executive Order 14247, and the IRS is currently requesting updated direct deposit information for many refunds.
If you received this letter, please do not be alarmed. Many taxpayers are receiving it even when their direct deposit information was entered correctly.
Steps to Complete
Access or create your IRS online account and add or update your bank account information.
Once completed, allow 2–5 days for your refund information to update in the system.
Use the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on the IRS website to check the status of your refund.
If you experience a system issue that prevents you from updating your bank account information, read the message carefully and try again later, as the site may be experiencing high traffic.
Please note: If you choose not to respond to the notice, the IRS will automatically issue a refund check after approximately 6 weeks.
If you have trouble using a computer, we are happy to assist you, but please be patient as this is a very busy time of year. We can schedule an appointment to walk you through the process.
If you do not have a computer but are comfortable using the website, your local public library may also be able to assist you with computer access.
A recent Executive Order 14247 led to changes in the direct deposit options you now have available. The new direct deposit change will allow individual taxpayers to provide us with a new or updated bank account to receive their tax refund via direct deposit if certain conditions are met.
