It’s tax season...10-99s are arriving and some are learning that they’ve been the victim of unemployment benefit fraud. If you have received a 10-99 from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, but did not file for unemployment benefits in 2020, contact ODJFS immediately. Due to high volumes, it’s recommended that you report the fraud online rather than by calling the agency. You can report identity theft by going to https://unemploymenthelp.ohio.gov

You should also contact the three major credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and Trans Union to place a one year fraud alert on your credit reports. Contact numbers for these companies can be found from the link provided above. ODJFS also recommends that fraud victims visit https://www.annualcreditreport.com to see if they have been the victim of other types of identity theft.

In most of these situations, you do not need to make a police report. ODJFS is conducting the investigations into fraudulent unemployment benefit claims, but if you learn that you’ve been the victim of other types of identity theft or fraud, please contact us on our non-emergency line 419-882-2055
