The IRS has $1.5 billion in refunds for unfiled 2018 tax returns. If you have not filed your 2018 return, you will lose your refund if it isn't filed by April 15th 2022. After that date, the IRS is legally allowed to deny your claim to your money.

Tax day has been pushed back from April 15th to to May 17th. This includes taxes that you may owe on your return. While this gives you a little additional time to process your return, I would encourage you to have your return prepared early and pay any taxes due on May 17th. Filing an extension does not change the date that the taxes are due, it only changes the date the tax return is due.

The IRS has officially extended the 2019 tax season for all filers to July 15th 2020. Normally, any tax due is due on April 15th regardless of an extension, however, the tax due date has also been extended to July 15th.
