May felt a little like December around here, and honestly, we loved every minute of it.

Between Team Building Bingo, a confetti gun surprise (yes, there is still confetti in the ceiling tiles), graduations, a birthday celebration, and a Memorial Day moment of reflection, May was packed from start to finish.

We are so proud of Dani and Jennifer on their graduations, and we are sending a big congratulations to Audrey Bush and Wyatt Dagg on graduating high school! Big things ahead for all of them.

As bookkeepers, we live by the art of reconciliation, and looking back on May, we found the perfect balance between hard work and celebration, professional growth and personal milestones, and individual wins and team connection.

The "Outstanding Invoice" Cleanup 💵

Throwback Thursday to a great two weeks with Emilia, our first Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA) intern of the summer!

Emilia wrapped up her time with us and left behind some takeaways we are still thinking about. It is okay to say "I do not know." Culture and relationships matter more than you might think. And taking initiative? It can take you further than you ever imagined.

A few fun facts about this amazing young woman: she plans on majoring in accounting and working toward her CPA license, she knits, crochets, and collects stamps, and she is fluent in Polish after attending Polish school alongside traditional school all the way through eighth grade. How cool is that?

This is just the first of three EfTA interns we will welcome this summer, and we are so excited for what is ahead. Thank you, Emilia, for bringing your energy, curiosity, and heart to the BBK team!

Friends, this quote is over 2,400 years old, and somehow it still hits like it was written for us this very week. ✨

Socrates believed that the act of pausing, reflecting, and honestly examining our lives is what makes them meaningful. Not the busyness. Not the achievements. The examination. The willingness to LOOK at where we are, who we're becoming, and where we're going. 💚

We don't think Socrates was talking about bookkeeping specifically (HA!), but the principle absolutely applies to running a business. The unexamined business is one that drifts. The unexamined finances are the ones that leak. The unexamined goals are ones that fade. ✨

This June, take 30 minutes (just 30!) to honestly examine your business so far this year. What's working? What isn't? What needs to change? What deserves to be celebrated? Treat the answers with curiosity, not judgment. 💚

Most owners don't pause because they're afraid of what they'll see. But the truth always leads somewhere better than avoidance does. ✨

Friends, here's a fun way to think about your bookkeeping setup: imagine if you were still taking selfies on a 2010 flip phone. The photos would technically EXIST, but the quality? Yikes. 😅📱

A lot of business owners are running their finances on the equivalent of a flip phone, and they don't even realize it! 💚

Modern accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online, Xero, Wave, etc.) can do in seconds what spreadsheets take hours to do. And they cost WAY less than the time you're currently losing. ✨

Friends, this is one of those tips that seems boring but can save you SO much stress (and money!) at year-end. Let's talk contractors! 💚

If you've paid ANYONE more than $2000 this year as a contractor (think: freelance designers, virtual assistants, cleaning services, IT support, etc.), you'll need to issue them a 1099 in January. And the BIGGEST reason businesses scramble at year-end? They didn't collect W-9s when they hired the contractor. 😅

When January 2027 rolls around, you'll thank yourself. Instead of scrambling for missing W-9s and chasing down contractors who've moved on, you'll have everything you need to issue 1099s in minutes. ✨

This is the kind of small, easy task that separates calm year-ends from chaotic ones. 💚
