🚨 HEADS UP: IRS RED FLAGS THAT CAN TRIGGER A REVIEW 🚨

As we get closer to tax season, here are a few things you want to avoid:

🔺 Unreported side hustle income (CashApp, Venmo, Zelle = YES, they count)
🔺 Inflated deductions
🔺 Mixing business + personal expenses
🔺 Claiming dependents that don’t actually qualify
🔺 Not matching what the IRS already has on file (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)

The goal isn’t to be scared — it’s to be prepared.
A clean, accurate return = less stress + faster refund.

The IRS just announced penalty relief for tax year 2025 on the new reporting rules for tips and overtime pay.

KEY POINTS:
• Employers won’t be penalized in 2025 if they don’t separately track cash tips or “qualified overtime” yet.
• The new qualified overtime deduction applies only to the premium part of time-and-a-half pay.
• W-2s, 1099s, and withholding tables are NOT changing for 2025.
• 2025 is a transition year, with more guidance coming.

WHY IT MATTERS:
If you earn a lot in tips or overtime, you may be eligible for new deductions starting in 2025.
• Tip income: up to $25,000 may qualify (rules apply).
• Overtime: up to $12,500 per person (or $25,000 if married filing jointly) of premium OT may be deductible depending on income.

WHAT TO DO:
1. Ask your employer/payroll if they’re tracking qualified overtime.
2. Make sure your tips + OT are accurately reported at tax time.
3. Consider checking in with a tax pro so you don’t miss anything.

Don’t panic.
Right now, we’re seeing a lot of Notice 5071C, CP2000, and balance due letters being sent out.

Here’s what to do:
1. Open it immediately (ignoring won’t make it go away).
2. Don’t call the IRS first — check with a tax professional.
3. Keep deadlines in mind — many notices give you only 30 days to respond.

We help clients every day navigate these letters with confidence. 💼

This isn’t a bill—it means the IRS flagged a tax return filed with your SSN/ITIN and needs you to verify your identity before processing it.

✅ Act fast: delays = delayed refunds
✅ Verify online at IRS.gov (link/QR code in your notice)
✅ Or call the hotline listed (be ready with tax docs)
✅ Consider getting an IP PIN to protect yourself from identity theft

⚠️ Reminder: The IRS will never text, call, or email you to verify your ID—only through IRS.gov.

Protect your refund. Protect your identity. 💸

✨ Important update for adoptive families in 2025 ✨

President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” was signed into law on July 4, and it includes a major change to the Adoption Tax Credit. Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Maximum credit amount (2025): $17,280 per child
✅ Refundable portion: Up to $5,000 back, even if your tax liability is zero
✅ Indexed to inflation: The credit increases yearly to keep up with rising costs
✅ Who qualifies? Families adopting through foster care, domestic private adoption, or international adoption (with some limitations)
✅ Special needs adoptions: Automatically eligible for the full credit if determined by the state

⚠️ Income limits: The credit begins to phase out at a MAGI of $259,190 and is fully phased out at $299,190.

Covered expenses include:
• Legal & agency fees
• Court costs
• Travel, meals, and lodging tied to the adoption
• Re-adoption costs for foreign children

🚫 Not covered: Stepchild adoptions, surrogate parenting costs, or expenses reimbursed by an employer or other programs.

Adoption can feel financially overwhelming, but this expanded credit makes the journey to growing your family more accessible. 💙

📌 Whether you work with our Firm or another tax professional, it’s worth looking into how this credit can support your adoption journey.

Let’s be honest… most people only think about taxes once a year — usually at the very last minute. That’s exactly why tax season feels so overwhelming. 😅

Here’s the truth:
Your finances don’t need to be stressful if you give them just a little attention each week.

Here’s a simple habit to start today →
👉 Take 5 minutes every Friday to do a quick money check-in.
• Peek at your bank accounts 💻
• Categorize any business or personal expenses 📂
• Drop receipts into your “Tax Folder” (digital or physical) 🧾
• Notice any patterns in your spending or saving habits

That’s it. Nothing complicated. Just a short, consistent routine.

Why it matters:
✅ You’ll always know where your money is going
✅ You’ll catch mistakes or surprises early
✅ Tax season will feel so much easier because you’ll already be organized

Think of it as a mini “money date” with yourself every Friday. 💼✨
Future you (and your tax advisor 😉) will be SO glad you started.

Happy Friday, friends — here’s to building money habits that feel light, not heavy. 🙌
