TAX TIP:

I told many people last year, but I'm saying it again here!!!

THE IRS is not sending refunds by check this year!!! I will repeat, the IRS is no longer sending refunds by check!!!!

Please be prepared when you visit your tax preparer. Have your bank name, routing number and account number ready.

If you want deposits to one of the prepaid debit cards or a card that your employer puts your paycheck on, we will need to know the name of the bank that supports that card.

Is the no paper check a 100% thing, no, but getting them to issue you a paper check will be very difficult and may take weeks or months. So, please be ready with banking information so that you can receive your refund timely.

I had planned on opening the office tomorrow (Monday, Jan 26, 2026), but the weather has changed my plans. Depending on the weather and condition of the streets, I may open the office on Tuesday. Call before you come to see if I"m there.

On another note, if you work somewhere where you work OVERTIME, you will probably need to download or be able to access your last paystub of 2025 so that we can calculate any deduction that you may be eligible for on the filling of your tax return. If you have questions, you may call me.

Be safe and stay warm my friends!!!!!!

Tax Tip for FRIDAY!!!!! OVERTIME

Many of you have heard that the new tax laws are eliminating taxes on Overtime. Well, again, with many tax laws, it DEPENDS. It depends on your Income, your Filing Status and how it is reported to you on your W2 from your employer.

It's another great topic to talk to your Tax Preparer about.

One quick thing I would like to explain to you is in the following example:

Let's say your regular rate of pay is $20.

You work 8 hours of overtime and that rate is at Time & a Half
$20 x 1.5 = $30
So your total overtime pay for the period would be 8 x $30 = $240

Now how will that affect my taxes. Well, if you qualify, you will not pay taxes on $80. That is the Extra Wages you earn on your overtime. $30 - $20 Regular Pay Rate = $10 x 8

Some people may earn overtime at 2 times their regular rate or possibly even more. So this calculation is different for each person. But it is not the entire amount you are paid for working overtime. I know what many have heard on TV or read on the Internet, but consult with your tax preparer for how it will impact your situation.

TAX TIP of the DAY!!!

Be sure to take all your tax documents with you to your tax preparer this year. Even your 1099-SSA This is the statement you get from the Social Security Administration that states the amount of Benefits you received from them in 2025. You may have Heard in the news that Social Security is no longer taxable, and for many people this might be true this year. BUT, your tax preparer will still need this information to complete your tax returns accurately. The new law, allows a larger deduction for taxpayers over 65 years of age. It allows $6,000 for a single person and $12,000 for a couple filing MFJ (married filing jointly). So, this deduction might eliminate your taxable social security.

NOTICE!!!! I stated Married Filing Jointly, as this deduction will not be available to Married People who file MFS (Married Filing Separately)

Remember folks, if you get a letter from the IRS or Indiana Dept of Revenue, call me as soon as possible. Don't accept what they say, they do make mistakes, but we only have 30 days for the date of the letter to contest their position. Call the office number, DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE! I don't check here very often.

Hope your having a nice summer, see you in January!!!

Did you owe the IRS or State this year after you filed your tax return? Now is a Great time to review your Paystubs or documents that you may receive for payments from Pensions.

Be sure that you are having Federal, State and Local taxes withheld. Save yourself the grief of owing money when you file your tax returns next year.

If you live in Indiana or Illinois and work in the other state, you need taxes withheld for both states. Or, in many cases, companies will only withhold taxes for the state they are located in, in those cases, have additional state tax withholding for that state, so you can get a refund to help cover the tax you will owe to the other state.
