Deadlines for today:

Filing & Payment: Federal returns and payments must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. local time or postmarked by the end of the day if using mail.

Extensions: If you cannot file today, you must submit Form 4868 by midnight to get an extension until October 15, 2026.
Note: An extension gives you more time to file, but not more time to pay; any estimated taxes owed are still due today to avoid penalties.

Contributions: Today is also the deadline to make 2025 contributions to an IRA or HSA.

Estimated Taxes: The first quarterly estimated tax payment for the 2026 tax year is due today.
