The submission of an Offer In Compromise is one of the most comprehensive methods by which to deal with unpaid IRS tax liabilities. An Offer In Compromise essentially is an offer to the IRS to pay a sum less than the total tax owed in order to have the remainder of the liability written off by the IRS.

Another happy ending!

A new client received a 12-page notice from the IRS regarding her 2022 personal income tax return. The notice said she owed over $8,700. She found me through a Google search. She called me in a panic. I could hear the fear in her voice. She said she was unable to sleep since she got the notice. She said she did not have $8,700 to pay the IRS. She didn’t know what she was going to do or where to even begin to start to solve the issue.

Sometimes a client will tug at your heartstrings. They remind you of a long-lost relative or an old friend. When they come to you with a problem, they want you to help them. And you want to help them. Now.

I immediately got her authorization to contact the IRS on her behalf and to speak with them in detail about her account. It was obvious from reviewing the notice that something just wasn’t right. Sure enough, after speaking with someone at the IRS, I was able to provide the information necessary to prove that the client absolutely did not owe the amount the IRS claimed.

It was a good phone call to the client to tell her that she did not owe the amount shown on the notice and that the IRS would be sending her another notice to let her know that the issue had been resolved.

This notice showing a $0.00 balance due just recently arrived in the mail.
