We are seeking a tax preparer and reviewer to perform a variety of accounting and tax preparation; including all individual tax returns and simple-to moderately-complex corporate, partnership, S-corp, and trust tax returns. Review tax returns prepared by others. Review financial statements, payroll, sales tax, and other tax returns prepared by others.
Essential Functions:
Reviews and reconciles accounting provided by clients to prepare tax returns.
Makes adjusting entries and completes trial balances in order to prepare a tax return.
Prepares state & federal business tax returns.
Reviews tax information submitted by the client for completeness; meets with or calls clients with questions.
Possesses knowledge of general tax regulations in order to answer clients’ questions.
Prepares and reviews personal tax returns of various complexities.
Represents clients in various tax matters such as evaluating & responding to tax notifications either by telephone or correspondence until final resolution obtained.
Responds to tax notices of any sort and prepares initial drafts of any letters required.
Performs tax research projects requiring moderate expertise, prepares & processes applications for employer identification numbers & subchapter S-elections.
Maintains a good understanding of depreciation and depreciation computer software package in order to set up clients and read and understand depreciation reports.
Works with confidential client matters; requires the ability to keep matters confidential.
Will assist in representing clients before taxing authorities, including representation under a power of attorney.
Supervising other team members may be required from time to time.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Master’s degree in accounting, or experience level deemed sufficient by management to warrant the CSM designation.
Proficiency with computer, Excel, Word.
Proficiency in working with all versions of QuickBooks.
Experience with Thomson Reuters products – UltraTax, File Cabinet Solutions, Fixed Asset Solutions, Practice Solutions.
Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles and income taxes.
Self-starter and well organized, requires minimal supervision to manage the day to day assignments.
License, Certificates, or Knowledge:
Either hold a current and valid certified public accountant’s license or be working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam. If not a CPA or working toward a CPA license, you must maintain knowledge and experience deemed necessary by management to carry out functions of the position.
Working Conditions:
The Firm operates under the R.O.W.E. (Results Only Work Environment), people management style which, among other aspects, includes team members setting their own work schedules based upon agreed-upon expectations.
Working remotely is an option after training.
Occasional same-day travel to work at client’s offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle.
