Many taxpayers have continued to receive automatically populated letters from the IRS regarding various issues they may have already dealt with. This may be a balance due, missing document, tax return not received or other tax issue.

Due to the continuing backlog the IRS is experiencing, they still may not have processed the payment or forms received, which means the system doesn’t know yet that the issue has already been handled from the taxpayer’s end.

Because of this delay, they have chosen to temporarily suspend the mailing of these automated letters. Those taxpayers who have already submitted information to resolve their tax issue should not expect to see any further letters for now, and the expectation is to have the backlog caught up before those mailings continue.

There are a select group of taxpayers that may have received IRS letter 6419 reporting incorrect Advanced Child Tax Credit payments.

To avoid any delay in return processing, it is important to compare the amount on the letters with the amounts actually received via direct deposit or check.
