The IRS is putting the spotlight on three big areas this season, so let’s get you prepared:

1. Dependents & Proof: Make sure you have solid proof that the dependents you’re claiming are indeed yours—whether they’re your kids, nieces, nephews, or others. Have documents ready to show they live with you if needed.

2. Self-Employment Verification: If you’re running a side hustle—cutting hair, selling online, you name it—be ready to show some form of payment proof. That could be Zelle receipts, Cash App transactions, invoices—anything that shows your income stream is legit.

3. Filing Status Accuracy: They’re also honing in on your filing status. If you’re claiming Head of Household, have a lease or school records handy that show you and your dependent’s info together.
