Over the past 9 months our team has been able to adapt quickly and efficiently, continuing to provide all the services our clients need without skipping a beat. We’ve expanded our services seemingly overnight to include legislative advisory and small business navigation of the Family First Coronavirus Response Act, the CARES Act and other programs.

By doubling down on our firm’s inherent belief that transparency, teamwork, curiosity and positivity are the keys to successful client relationships, we assert our position as one of the Pacific Northwest’s top tax and accounting firms at the forefront of customer service and innovation.

We know our external image needs to match our internal drive and so we have been working with the amazing people over at the marketing firm Sands Costner, Inc. to give us a much needed updated look, one that matches our firm’s mission and values. You can continue to expect the same stellar tax and accounting services you have always experienced, but with a bright new look.

Things have been quiet over here as we work behind the scenes to get ready for a 'brand' new announcement.

The pandemic has upended our day-to-day lives in many ways we never saw coming and no one's routine has been without disruption.  As a company, we've taken this time to revisit our firm’s core values, the services we offer and our mission statement in an effort to solidify our company image and our firm’s place as a modern, cloud-based, well rounded accounting team.

As this year draws to a close, we are looking to the future with bright eyes and a positive mindset and we are excited to have you along for this journey.

Check back tomorrow for another hint!

Covid-19 may be keeping us from gathering this Memorial Day but it won't stop us from honoring those who've made the ultimate sacrifice.⠀

This year we are joining wear blue: run to remember and honoring the service and sacrifice of the American military and their family members through running.⠀

Due to COVID-19, wear blue: run to remember is unable to host a live Memorial Day event this year. Instead, they are taking it online. ⠀

If you register on their website, you will be given the opportunity to commit to running or walking a certain distance. You can do it at a local park, or around the streets and sidewalks of your neighborhood.⠀

You will also be given the name and backstory of a service member to honor as you walk/run on that day. Participants are encouraged to learn their stories, speak their names, and honor their legacies.⠀

Please join Sound Tax and wear blue: run to remember as we virtually link arms to honor our fallen soldiers and their families.

You've received your PPP loan, now what?

The original Paycheck Protection Program was passed as part of the CARES Act by Congress on March 27 with the intention of helping small businesses keep their doors open and employees paid during the Covid-19 pandemic. The funds were depleted in just 13 days. On April 22, Congress approved additional funding to the PPP. Both times, there was a massive rush to apply for funds and Sound Tax and Accounting worked tirelessly to help each of our clients who asked for assistance in applying for loans and grants. Now that small businesses are starting to receive their funds, we wanted to talk to you about the forgiveness aspect of these grants/loans and how we can help with that, too.

The Treasury Department has issued a live FAQ document that has been updated over 15 times since the original legislation was passed. The HEROES Act currently being debated in the Senate may further change the specifications for calculating for PPP loan forgiveness. We anticipate additional legislation and Treasury department guidance to be issued, amended and updated several times for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If you have applied for or received PPP funds you will need a system for tracking forgivable expenses that is flexible and able to evolve with the changing regulatory environment. Here is a great resource for calculating loan forgiveness, as the legislation stands right now.

So you got your Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan. Now what? This step-by-step guide breaks down how to budget your funds if you want your loan forgiven.
