→ Shopify Payments fees
→ Refunds and chargebacks
→ Sales tax
→ Reserves and holds

Shopify integrations save hours, but only if they’re set up right. And because it’s “automated,” nobody checks. The fix isn’t more apps. It’s one integration, mapped correctly, and reviewed regularly.

This usually happens when inventory gets recorded as an asset, but COGS never gets recorded when the product sells. The result: your balance sheet looks rich, and your profit looks better than it really is.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common things we find. To save yourself a major headache later, we highly recommend getting this fixed BEFORE Black Friday & Cyber Monday... Not after.

👻 The $600 rule is officially a ghost. For payments made starting in 2026, the reporting threshold for Form 1099-NEC and most 1099-MISC payments rose from $600 to $2,000. The $600 threshold still applies to 2025 payments.

A few things haven’t changed:
→ Payments to contractors by credit card or through a third-party network still aren’t reported on a 1099-NEC
→ Once a contractor hits $2,000, the form reports everything you paid them, not just the amount above the threshold
→ You still need W-9s, and the time to collect them is now, not January 28th

When it comes to quarterly reviews, here’s what we actually look at. 👇

✔ Sales & Payouts: do you understand your net deposits from Shopify?
✔ Clearing accounts: are they zeroing out, or is something lingering?
✔ Expenses & Categorization: are app fees, ad spend, and shipping where they belong?
✔ Integrations: is your connector posting cleanly, or duplicating sales?
✔ Sales Tax Liabilities: is what you collected sitting as a liability, not income?

A clearing account is meant to be a pass-through, not a holding account. So if the balance just keeps growing, something isn’t being recorded. Usually it’s fees, refunds, or payouts matched to the wrong place.
