FRIENDLY REMINDER: 2017 will be the last year until (at least) 2025 you will be able to deduct certain items on your tax return:
1. Property taxes in excess of $10,000 will not be deductible next year. Try to pre-pay them by 12/31 if possible
2. Give more to charity this year as many tax payers will lose the ability to itemize in 2018
3. If you have anticipated unreimbursed job expenses, in excess of 2% of your income, try to make those purchases in 2017
4. Home Equity Loans: Call your banks and offer to pre-pay some of your interest this year as this is DISALLOWED next year
5. Tax Preparation Service: Pre-pay for your services before 12/31 as this is DISALLOWED in 2018

ACA AND TAXES

Under the new ACA law (Obamacare), you must have health insurance. You must purchase insurance if you do not have insurance through work and meet one of the following:
• You or your child has a SSN
• You are a US Citizen or you meet one of the following:

• Permanent Resident (Green Card)
• Asylee or Asylum Applicant
• Refugee
• Battered Spouse, Child or Parent
• Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
• Employment Authorization
• DACA

You must have insurance by February 15, 2015.

Special Note
If you are not compliant with ACA, you may face a tax penalty of:

• $325 per adult, 162.50 per child OR
• 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income, whichever is higher

The penalty will be automatically deducted from your refund if due, or added to the amount owed.
