***Important Reminder***

If you are mailing anything to the IRS (or other places) where postmark date matters, get it hand stamped inside the post office! For added assurance, consider getting additional proof of mailing such as using certified mail options.

As of December 2025, USPS postmark may reflect the date mail is processed at a regional facility, not the day it is dropped off. Mail may be postmarked 1–2 days after deposit, risking late fees for deadlines. For guaranteed same-day postmarks, you must request a manual, in-person postmark at a post office retail counter.

With one week left before the April 15 filing deadline, I wanted to take a minute to thank all of my wonderful clients. (And a BIG reminder for those still needing to file!)

2026 has turned out to be a challenging year. Between major tax law changes, implementing our new client portal, software challenges, and other operational modifications, life has remained interesting.

If you are still needing to file your 2025 tax return and haven’t been in contact with me, please contact me immediately. While the IRS allows for an automatic 6 month extension to file, this does not provide an extension to the payment due date.

Additionally, as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), professional standards require me to engage in certain procedures in order for me to be able to file your taxes, including an extension. If you have any questions or are needing to discuss filing an extension, please call the office.

Once again, thank you for allowing me to be your CPA and work with you as a trusted financial advisor.

It’s that time of year again!

BLUF: Don’t get lost in the trees trying to figure out your taxes, your CPA should be a year round advisor!

I was recently reading through The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (aka OBBBA, OB3A, HR1, or Public Law 119-21). Many are familiar with a few of the various provisions. There’s “No Tax on Tips” (§70201), “No Tax on Overtime” (§70202), vehicle interest deduction (§70203), and the enhanced senior deduction (§70103). You’ve probably heard 100% bonus depreciation, R&D expensing, and Opportunity Zones are back.

But there’s SO MUCH MORE! There’s Trump Accounts, §179 enhancements, §1202 QSBS enhancements, numerous changes to itemized deductions… There’s even a provision that helps in the FAFSA calculation for family farms and small businesses!

All that and so much more can only lead to one conclusion. Tax planning is a year round process and maintaining constant communication with your CPA is a must!

The IRS released their contingency plan today for the government shutdown. In their plan, 53.6% of IRS employees (39,870) will continue working.

What will they be working on? Preparing for upcoming year’s tax filings.

What won’t they be working on? Taxpayer services such as responding to taxpayer questions.

With nearly half of the IRS furloughed and the remaining staff focused on you filling your next tax return, don’t you want to make sure you have a good relationship with your CPA headed into next year?
