Long post alert šØ Real talk from your tax professional for a momentā¦
I truly love what I do. Helping people file their taxes correctly and making sure they get what they deserve is something I take a lot of pride in. I go the extra mile for my clients because thatās the level of service I believe people deserve.
But Iāll be honest⦠sometimes that effort doesnāt always feel appreciated.
Most of my clients are amazing and Iām extremely grateful for the trust, loyalty, and referrals you send my way. But every tax season there are a few situations where honesty and effort just arenāt there.
When things like back taxes, debts, or prior issues arenāt shared upfront and turn into excuses later, it puts me in a difficult position professionally.
Please remember⦠this is my business.
Not a hobby.
Not a side gig.
Not something I do casually.
This is something I built and put my heart into.
And whether weāre family, friends, or you know someone who knows me⦠business is still business. The same professionalism, honesty, and respect I give my clients is the same I expect in return.
When policies have to be enforced or preparation fees have to be collected, it may make me look like the bad guy. But in reality, Iām simply protecting the business I worked hard to build.
I also want to be transparent about something: this will unfortunately be my last year offering referral bonuses. I truly appreciate everyone who has supported my business by sending people my way. If you still want to refer someone to me, I appreciate it but the referrals themselves will be the support moving forward unless I decide to bring the program back in the future.
Just remember⦠your tax preparer is human too.
We have families.
We have responsibilities.
And yes⦠we have bills too.
Tax season works best when the honesty, respect, and effort go both ways.
To the clients who truly value my work and continue to support my business⦠thank you. Youāre the reason I keep doing what I love every season.
End of rant.
Question:
Do you think people sometimes forget that small business owners are real people behind the service?
