A little Spokane history for the first day of October…

In 1922, Spokane Valley was home to more than 1.6 million apple trees. In fact, the area's apple industry was so prominent that Appleway got its name from the orchards that once lined the route.

A lot has changed in the last 100+ years, but apples are still a pretty big part of fall around here, especially once Green Bluff season arrives.

So we're curious: What's the one thing you never leave Green Bluff Farms without?

- Apples
- Donuts
- Pie
- C***r
- Pumpkins

Some financial decisions feel pretty insignificant in the moment.

An extra 1% toward retirement.
An old 401(k) you haven’t dealt with.
A raise that quietly turns into higher spending.
Estate documents you keep meaning to update.
Roth vs. Traditional

Individually, they may not feel urgent. Over the course of years, they can add up.

That’s one of the benefits of having a financial plan, and someone helping you look at the whole picture.

Swipe through for 6 financial decisions that may deserve a little more attention.

Which one have you been putting off?

There’s something pretty special about getting to show up for your kids, no matter how old they get.

We were so grateful to be in Missouri this weekend to watch Charlie race. We’ve spent a lot of years on sidelines, in gyms, at fields and finish lines, and we don’t take any of it for granted.

The travel, the early mornings, the nerves, the hugs afterward… these are the moments we’ll remember.

Feeling especially thankful today for family, for time together, and for the gift of getting to cheer our girls on as they do what they love.

We spend a lot of time planning for retirement. But what about everything that comes after it?

September is Healthy Aging Month, a good reminder that preparing for the future goes beyond taking care of our physical health. Financial well-being matters, too.

Our financial needs evolve throughout life, from that first paycheck to saving and investing, raising a family, growing wealth, retirement, and eventually thinking about the legacy we want to leave.

A good financial plan should evolve right alongside you, helping you navigate each new season with clarity and confidence.

Because retirement isn't the end of the plan. It's simply another chapter.

Where are you on your financial journey?

If your financial plan were a dog… would it be well trained?

A well trained financial plan doesn’t mean everything always goes exactly as expected. Markets change. Life changes. Priorities change.

But a good plan has structure. It knows what it’s supposed to do when things get a little unpredictable.

That means having a strategy for saving, investing, retirement, taxes, and the unexpected, so every market headline doesn’t have you chasing your tail.

A little preparation. A lot more confidence.

So, how well trained is your financial plan?

The Fed raised rates. So…is that good news or bad news for you?

The answer depends.

Higher rates can affect everything from credit cards and mortgages to savings, investments and future financial decisions. But changing headlines don’t necessarily mean you need to change your plan.

That’s one of the benefits of having a financial advisor in your corner. When rates move, markets fluctuate or the economic outlook shifts, you don’t have to figure out what it all means on your own. You already have a plan and someone who understands your full financial picture to help you determine what, if anything, needs your attention.

Good financial planning isn’t about reacting to every headline. It’s about being prepared for them.

The headlines will change. Your plan should help you stay focused on what matters.

Are you a SAVER or a SPENDER?

Some of us love watching that savings account grow. Others would rather enjoy a little more of it along the way. And plenty of us are somewhere in between.

That’s one of the benefits of having a clear financial plan, it can make room for both.

For savers, a plan can provide confidence that you’re saving with purpose and help you know when it’s okay to enjoy what you’ve worked for. For spenders, it can create the guardrails that make spending today possible without losing sight of tomorrow.

A good plan isn’t about choosing between enjoying life and preparing for the future. It’s about finding the right balance for you.

So… which one are you?

Twenty five years ago today, our country experienced a day we will never forget.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who answered the call in the years that followed, and the families who have carried the weight of that day ever since.

Twenty five years later, we still remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity that emerged from unimaginable tragedy.

Today, we pause to remember.

Never forget.

College comes with tuition, housing and books…but also coffee runs, DoorDash, concert tickets and a surprising number of Venmo requests.
This is a particularly relevant conversation in the Cullen household. I have already graduated one daughter from college and currently have two daughters in college, so the question of “Who pays for what?” isn’t just theoretical around here.

One approach is to separate expenses into needs vs. wants and decide ahead of time which ones parents will cover and which ones the student is responsible for. Some expenses are pretty straightforward.
Others, flights home, gas, car insurance, Greek life or club sports, can take a little more discussion. There’s no single right answer for every family.
However, having the conversation early can set expectations, reduce surprises and give college students real world practice budgeting and making trade offs.
