Their new office in Southern Pines office handles personal, corporate, non-profit work and specializes in small entrepreneurial businesses, and tax planning work for individuals and businesses throughout Moore County.

It is with great sadness to share with all of you the passing of our beloved Mark Adel. Mark passed away in his home on June 5th. Mark was a beloved father, husband, neighbor, community leader, dog dad, boss and friend. A service for Mark is being planned and we will share details as soon as we have them.

In the meantime, please know that if you have tax business with us here at Mark’s Tax Professionals, Tom and Clara are still in the office and will continue to handle everthing.

We know how much our clients loved Mark and we are so sorry to have to share this information via social media. However, we felt this was the best way to get information out to everyone. Mark will be greatly missed. Please continue to pray for his family, especially Camelia, who, as some of you know is struggling with an aggressive cancer. We thank you for your prayers during this difficult time.

Do you work from home? Do you have a security system? Although you cannot deduct your home security system as a personal expense, you can deduct it as an expense for your business. The IRS and its Security Summit partners are warning people to be aware of text message scams. The thief’s goal is to trick people into revealing bank account information.

Here’s how this scam works
People get a text message saying they have “received a direct deposit of $1,200" from the government. Further action is required to accept this payment… Continue here to accept this payment …" The text includes a link to a phishing web address.

This fake link appears to come from a state agency or relief organization. It takes people to a fake website. If people visit the fake website and enter their personal and financial account information, the scammers collect it. Be smart. The IRS will never send you a text. If you have questions, reach out, our tax gurus can help!

DID YOU KNOW:

If you have significant gambling losses during the year? You may be able to deduct them on Schedule A along with your other itemized deductions. Just remember that you also need to include your gambling winnings as part of your income for the year.
