Picking up extra hours at your job? You can get a tax deduction on qualified overtime compensation. Starting in tax year 2025, under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, you can deduct up to $12,500 of wages that exceed your regular rate of pay. This can offer significant savings on your tax return.

Find out if you qualify at www.irs.gov/obbb.

Sounds like a simple change, but the IRS will no longer issue paper checks, so all refunds must be deposited directly. Keep this in mind when you drop off your tax information and make sure we have your updated banking information.

For kids, refunds must also be deposited directly, and the refunds must go into a bank account in their name. If your kids have a job and are making money, it sounds like the perfect time to get their own bank accounts opened.

If you owe tax this year, you will be making your payment electronically when your return is filed and not mailing in that paper check. The date of the payment is specified when your return is filed, so please don't think you have to file on April 15th in order to pay them on the last day possible.

This is per Executive Order 14247

As always, please reach out if you have any questions.

The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" has so many changes for the 2025 tax year. Over the next few weeks I'm going to touch on some of these deductions that we have never really seen before.

Car interest is going to be allowed as a deduction for the tax years 2025-2028. This is NOT an itemized deduction, this is a subtraction from your adjusted gross income. Here is what you need to know:

* the purchase date must be after 12.31.2024
* it must be a NEW car (used vehicles do not qualify)
* this car must be used for personal use
* it has to be assembled in the US with a gross vehicle weight under 14,000 pounds (the VIN will start with a 1, 4 or 5)
* the vehicle loan must be secured by the car (ie you can't use a home equity loan)

Keep this in mind if your purchase looks like it qualifies and bring the information with you at tax time.
