TAX TIP SUNDAY

You signed your return. Your tax preparer entered the payment information or you paid online through the IRS site on April 15th. However, you don't see the payment hit your bank account.

This is a reminder it typically takes 1 to 3 business days for an IRS tax payment to clear your bank account after the scheduled date.

While the IRS initiates the debit on the date you specify, the actual processing time depends on the banking system's ACH (Automated Clearing House) speeds and your specific financial institution. During high-volume periods (like right around the April 15th deadline), it is common for the IRS to take a few extra days to process the massive influx of requests. It can sometimes take 7 to 10 days for the debit to appear in these cases.

If you don't see the money leave the account immediately, do not try to pay again. As long as the payment was submitted by the deadline, it is considered timely, even if the bank clears it a week later. Most modern banking apps will show the IRS debit in your "Pending" section a day or two before the balance actually drops.

If 10 days pass and the funds still haven't moved, it’s worth double-checking the bank account and routing numbers on the confirmation receipt to ensure there wasn't a typo.

Let’s clear this up real quick ⬇️

Once your tax return is prepared, reviewed, and submitted, your tax preparer does NOT control your refund amount. What you were approved for is what was filed.

If your refund is less than expected, there’s usually a reason — and most of the time, it’s due to an offset. That means your refund was applied to certain debts like:

✔️ Past-due taxes
✔️ Student loans
✔️ Child support
✔️ Other government obligations

👉 The Internal Revenue Service will send you a notice explaining exactly where your money went and why.

📞 IRS Offset Hotline: 800-304-3107

Let me be clear:

We prepare the return.
The IRS processes it and applies any debts.

Head of Household (HOH): A Powerful Filing Status — With Strict IRS Rules

Head of Household (HOH) is a U.S. tax filing status that can provide lower tax rates and a higher standard deduction than filing Single — but only when IRS requirements are met.
Many returns get delayed, corrected, or audited simply because this status is misunderstood or misused.

✅ What Qualifies You for Head of Household?

To file as HOH, ALL of the following must apply:

• You must be unmarried or considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year
• You must pay more than half the cost of keeping up a home, including:
– Rent or mortgage
– Utilities
– Food eaten in the home
– Household maintenance and expenses

• You must have a qualifying dependent

Qualifying dependent rules:
– A qualifying child must generally live with you more than half the year
– A qualifying parent does not have to live with you, as long as you provide more than half of their support

❌ When Head of Household Is NOT Allowed

You cannot file as HOH if:

• You lived with your spouse during the last six months of the year
• You did not pay the majority of household expenses
• Your dependent does not meet IRS eligibility requirements
• Household costs are shared equally with another adult

📌 Simple Example

✔️ A single taxpayer pays rent, utilities, and food for the household and supports a child who lives with them most of the year — HOH may apply.

❌ A taxpayer who splits bills equally with another adult, even with a dependent — HOH may NOT apply.

Support and responsibility matter more than who lives there.

⚠️ Important IRS Note

There is NO income limit for Head of Household.

HOH qualification is based on:
✔️ Household support
✔️ Financial responsibility
✔️ Dependency rules

Not income level.

💼 Why Taxpayers Aim for HOH

• Lower tax rates than Single
• Higher standard deduction
• Potentially greater overall tax savings

But only when filed correctly.

📌 Filing the wrong status can trigger IRS letters, refunds delays, penalties, or audits.
Accuracy beats assumptions — every time.

🚨 OFFICIAL IRS FILING DATES – 2026 TAX SEASON UPDATE 🚨

The Internal Revenue Service has officially announced the 2026 filing start dates. Please pay close attention 👇🏽

🗓️ Updated IRS Acceptance Dates

✔️ January 13, 2026 – IRS begins accepting BUSINESS tax returns
✔️ January 26, 2026 – IRS begins accepting INDIVIDUAL tax returns
✔️ January 31, 2026 – MANDATORY deadline for businesses to file:
• W-2s (employees)
• 1099-NEC / 1099-MISC (contractors)
• Other required informational returns

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER — PLEASE READ
DO NOT rush to file if you do NOT have all required documents.
Filing early without complete and accurate information is one of the top reasons refunds get delayed, adjusted, or audited later.

💡 Smart filing > fast filing
✔️ Wait for ALL forms (W-2s, 1099s, 1095-A, 1098-T, etc.)
✔️ Accuracy protects your refund
✔️ Compliance prevents IRS corrections

📌 Filing opens on a date — that does NOT mean your return is ready to file.

If you have questions or need help getting organized, feel free to reach out.
Preparation now saves stress later 💼✔️
