Most financial advisors are using AI as a productivity tool.
Almost none are planning for it as a financial variable.
Those are two very different things.
And the gap between them is becoming a real risk for a lot of families.
Using AI to draft emails, summarize meetings, or automate workflows?
Fine. Helpful. Efficient.
But that’s not the real question affluent households are quietly asking right now.
The real question is:
Does our financial plan still work in the world that’s actually coming?
Because AI isn’t just changing technology.
It’s changing income durability.
Career stability.
Hiring patterns.
Compensation structures.
Business valuations.
And eventually, household confidence.
A fiduciary’s responsibility isn’t just managing what clients have today.
It’s helping them prepare for what could disrupt tomorrow.
That means asking harder questions than our industry is used to asking:
→ Is your income stress-tested for career disruption — not just death or disability?
→ Is your 529 strategy preparing kids for the economy ahead… or the one we grew up in?
→ If household income compressed 20–30% over the next five years, what breaks first?
→ How exposed is your business, profession, or industry to AI-driven margin pressure?
→ When was the last time your advisor brought you a risk you hadn’t considered yet?
That last question matters.
Because many clients don’t need more market commentary right now.
They need strategic thinking about what the next decade may actually look like.

This past weekend, thousands of college graduates booed when AI was mentioned at commencement ceremonies.

That happened at my daughter’s tech-heavy campus, UC Berkeley.

It happened again at the University of Arizona, where former Google CEO Eric Schmidt was jeered by thousands of graduates after saying AI would touch “every profession, every classroom, every relationship.”

And right here in Arizona at Glendale Community College, an AI system malfunctioned while reading graduates’ names during commencement. The college president had to explain the error to the crowd.

More boos.

These aren’t students who hate technology.

These are young adults who did exactly what they were told to do.

Study hard. Get the degree. Take on the debt. Build the rĂŠsumĂŠ. Prepare for the future.

And now they’re stepping into a job market that suddenly feels uncertain, unstable, and rewritten in real time.

I understand the reaction.

Because underneath the boos wasn’t anger. It was fear.

Fear that the rules changed right before they crossed the finish line.

As a financial advisor, I keep thinking about something bigger:

That fear doesn’t stop at graduation. It follows these students home.

It shows up at dinner tables. In conversations between parents and kids. In quiet questions about careers, financial independence, student loans, and whether traditional planning still works in an AI-driven economy.

And honestly, I don’t think our industry is talking about this enough.

Most advisors are still focused solely on markets, taxes, retirement projections, and investment performance.

Those things matter. But increasingly, clients also need help navigating uncertainty around work, identity, and what economic opportunity looks like for the next generation.

AI isn’t just another technology cycle.

It’s reshaping how value is created. How companies hire. How careers evolve. And eventually, how families define financial security.

The graduates booing this weekend weren’t rejecting innovation.

They were reacting to the realization that adaptability may matter more than predictability going forward.

That’s a conversation worth having with our clients. Especially the ones raising children who are entering this new economy.

Because the financial planning conversation of the future may not start with retirement.

It may start with:

“What kind of world are our kids graduating into?”

If you have a few minutes today, please help send a message to the state legislators. As usual, arts funding is being eliminated in the current iteration of the state budget. It actually does help when folks send a message to their legislators. It only takes about two minutes. Thanks in advance!

Why don’t trees ever feel lonely? Because they are always branching out in their social Netwrk! Lol!! OMG - Fun night, great people, and a cause that actually matters.

Mixtape Magic for Child Crisis Arizona brought together a room full of people who don’t just talk about giving back—they show up.

Grateful to be part of that kind of community.

(And yes… the 80s look made a brief return 😎)

Are Financial Vampires Draining Your Wallet? This spooky season, I had the opportunity to join Channel 3 Arizona to talk about a scary—but common—issue: financial vampires. These are the sneaky expenses that quietly drain your budget without you even realizing it.

From unused subscriptions and auto-renewals to those small daily purchases (like your favorite coffee run), these little costs can really add up over time. In my segment, I shared simple, practical tips to help you shine a light on these money drains—and take back control of your spending.

As I said in the interview: "Vampires don’t like the light — so shine a light on your expenses!"

I had the incredible honor of attending the Arizona Disabled Sports Ability Ball this past weekend at the DoubleTree in Mesa, alongside my colleagues Sam Jackson and Jake Chapman.

The event was truly inspiring—bringing together a community committed to inclusion, empowerment, and resilience. Arizona Disabled Sports (AzDS) does amazing work providing adaptive sports and recreational opportunities for individuals with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.

From celebrating the achievements of the athletes to supporting AzDS through raffles and auctions, it was a night filled with purpose and heart. I’m proud to support such a meaningful cause and grateful for the opportunity to be part of something that makes a real difference in our community.
