Accounting firms are being bought up and merged at a record pace. When that happens, clients often get new faces, new fees, and less attention.

That's not us.

Sadowski & Company has been independent and locally owned since 1986. The people you meet are the people who do your work, and we're not going anywhere.

If your firm just changed hands, or you're tired of being a number, let's talk. (912) 232-2211

When moving to a different state, changes to your state taxes on income and property may get most of your attention. But state estate taxes should also be part of the equation. Some states impose their own estate or inheritance taxes, often with exemption amounts significantly lower than the current federal exemption of $15 million. State rules also differ on tax rates and residency requirements for being subject to state taxes. Before relocating, call us at (912) 232-2211 for help reviewing how your destination state’s tax laws could affect your estate plan.

A well-defined compensation philosophy can do a lot for your business. It may help attract job candidates, retain employees and control payroll costs. Although competitive pay is important, employees consider your full compensation package. This includes bonuses and other performance incentives, benefits and perks, professional development opportunities, and flexible work arrangements. Contact us at (912) 232-2211 for guidance on developing a well-rounded strategy that’s aligned with your business goals, workforce needs and budget.

The IRS has released its 2026–2027 per diem rates for certain business travel expenses, effective Oct. 1, 2026. Under the high-low substantiation method, the rate for lodging, meals and incidental expenses for travel to high-cost localities within the continental United States (CONUS) rises to $329 per day, from $319. The rate for other CONUS localities rises to $230, from $225. The portion attributable to meals remains $86 for high-cost areas and $74 for other areas. The incidental-expenses-only rate remains $5. Employers can pay more than the IRS per diem rates, but excess amounts generally must be substantiated or treated as taxable wages. Contact us at (912) 232-2211 to learn about all your options for substantiating business travel expenses.

Don’t let your FSA money ghost you!

Most flexible spending account dollars are use it or lose it, so if you don’t spend them, they vanish into thin air at the end of the plan year. Spooky, right?

Before your balance disappears:
• Check how much you have left
• Ask HR if your plan has a grace period or carryover
• Book appointments or stock up on eligible items

Have an HSA instead? Good news, that money sticks around year to year.

If your business receives a significant amount of cash payments, meticulous recordkeeping is essential. Because cash transactions are harder to verify, they increase the risk of underreporting income and attracting IRS scrutiny. The IRS pays close attention to these businesses and may use tools, such as cash flow analysis, bank deposit comparisons and lifestyle audits, to estimate actual income. If discrepancies arise or your records are inadequate, the IRS may reconstruct your income using indirect methods, potentially resulting in higher taxes than necessary. Are you planning to buy a business vehicle, furniture or equipment before year end? The timing of your purchase could affect your 2026 tax bill. To claim these breaks for 2026, qualifying property must be placed in service by December 31, 2026. Before making a major purchase, consider your projected taxable income, cash flow, financing needs, and any applicable deduction limits and eligibility requirements.
