As part of a U.S. Treasury initiative, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is moving toward fully electronic payments for refunds.
Why the change?
Electronic refunds are:
✔️ Faster
✔️ More secure
✔️ Less likely to be lost, stolen, or delayed
⏱ Paper checks can take 6+ weeks, while direct deposit is usually much quicker.
What this means for you:
• You’ll still file your tax return the same way
• Refunds will be sent electronically
• Have your bank routing & account numbers ready
Don’t have a bank account?
Alternative options will still be available, including prepaid debit cards and digital wallets.
If you owe the IRS:
Payment methods stay the same for now, but electronic payments are strongly encouraged.
