As part of a U.S. Treasury initiative, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is moving toward fully electronic payments for refunds.
Why the change?

Electronic refunds are:

✔️ Faster
✔️ More secure
✔️ Less likely to be lost, stolen, or delayed

⏱ Paper checks can take 6+ weeks, while direct deposit is usually much quicker.

What this means for you:

• You’ll still file your tax return the same way
• Refunds will be sent electronically
• Have your bank routing & account numbers ready

Don’t have a bank account?

Alternative options will still be available, including prepaid debit cards and digital wallets.

If you owe the IRS:
Payment methods stay the same for now, but electronic payments are strongly encouraged.

IRS Releases New Transitional Relief for 2025 Tip & Overtime Deductions

In Notice 2025-69, the IRS outlined the full scope of transitional relief for claiming the new §224 Qualified Tips Deduction and §225 Qualified Overtime Deduction—important updates for businesses and tax professionals preparing 2025 returns.

Previously, the IRS confirmed that no changes would be made to information returns for TY25, which created challenges since taxpayers couldn’t rely on third-party reporting to claim these deductions. This new guidance helps clarify how these deductions can still be claimed during the transition period.

If you have questions about how these new deductions impact your business, we’re here to help.

World Kindness Day!

Kindness isn’t only about how we treat others. It also shows up in the way we take care of ourselves, especially when it comes to the stressful parts of life like taxes. A little organization now can save you a lot of anxiety later, and that is one of the simplest acts of kindness you can give your future self.

Setting aside your receipts, keeping track of your business expenses, reviewing income throughout the year, and asking questions early all make tax season smoother. It also gives you more control over your financial picture, which means fewer surprises and better planning.

If you have been meaning to catch up, get organized, or finally get clarity on your tax situation, today is the perfect reminder to take that first step. A few small actions now can make a huge difference later, and we’re here to help you feel supported every step of the way.

Tax Season Reflection Time!

October 15th just passed — but believe it or not, the 2026 filing season is only about three months away. The time to make improvements is now.

After taking some well-deserved rest, take time for an honest tax season review. Reflecting now ensures real change before the next busy season begins.

Here are a few questions to guide your review:

- Stay Organized
Start a folder (digital or physical) for 2025 tax documents now — W-2s, 1099s, donation receipts, medical expenses, and business records.

- Review Your Withholding & Estimates
If you owed or received a large refund this year, it might be time to adjust your withholdings or estimated tax payments.

- Track Deductions Year-Round
Keep receipts and records for deductible expenses — charitable donations, business mileage, education costs, and home office items.

- Evaluate Financial Changes
Big life changes like buying a home, starting a business, getting married, or having a baby can impact your taxes. Let us know early so we can plan ahead.

- Schedule a Mid-Year Tax Review
Don’t wait until next spring — a short planning meeting now can help you avoid surprises later.

A strong next tax season starts with reflection today.

Reminder: October 15th is the final day to file your federal income tax return for anyone who requested an extension back in April. If you still need to file, make sure everything is submitted before the deadline to avoid penalties or delays.

The ongoing federal government shutdown continues with no clear end in sight.

According to the IRS contingency plan, supplemental funding from the Inflation Reduction Act allowed operations to continue through October 7, 2025. As of October 8, some IRS employees have begun receiving furlough notices, though the total number of affected employees is still unknown.

At this time, taxpayers may experience processing delays for returns, correspondence, or refund reviews. Peake CPA will continue to monitor updates from the IRS and provide guidance as more information becomes available.
