📣 Tax Tip Thursday!

The IRS is officially reopening e‑filing this Monday, January 26th! 🎉

Tax season is back! If you're planning to e‑file your return, the IRS systems will be up and running again starting Monday. That means you can begin submitting your 2025 returns electronically through your preferred tax professional or software.

A few reminders as e‑filing reopens:
✔️ Make sure you’ve gathered all your tax documents (W‑2s, 1099s, receipts, etc.)
✔️ Double‑check personal information for accuracy
✔️ Reach out if you have questions about deductions, credits, or filing requirements

Above Tax Services is here to help make your tax season smooth, accurate, and stress‑free.

Tax Tip Thursday: Plan Ahead for 2026!

Starting with the 2026 tax year, charitable giving gets a boost!

You’ll be able to deduct cash donations to qualified charities even if you take the standard deduction.

💸 Up to $1,000 for single filers
💸 Up to $2,000 for married couples filing jointly

This deduction lowers your AGI, which helps reduce your taxable income.

👇 Comment your favorite charities below—we’d love to see them!

🚨 Tax Tip Thursday 🚨

Did you file for an extension back in April? Your final deadline to submit your 2024 federal tax return is October 15!

✅ An extension to file is NOT an extension to pay—interest and penalties have been accruing since April if you owe.

📅 Don’t wait! File before the deadline to avoid extra costs.

Need help? Above Tax Services can make sure your return is accurate and on time.

📬💸 Tax Tip Thursday: IRS Is Ending Paper Refund Checks!

Starting September 30, 2025, the IRS will begin phasing out paper tax refund checks to streamline payments and improve security. This change is part of a federal initiative to modernize how Americans receive their refunds.

✅ Why this matters:

- Faster refunds: Direct deposit typically arrives in under 21 days.
- Safer delivery: Paper checks are 16x more likely to be lost or stolen.
- More options: If you don’t use a traditional bank, you can still receive your refund via prepaid debit cards or digital wallets.

📌 Paper checks will still be available in limited cases, but electronic options are now the standard.

📌 Tax Tip Thursday – Don’t Miss Your Estimated Tax Payments!

Did you miss the September 15th estimated tax payment deadline? 😬
If you're self-employed, own a business, or earn income without tax withholding, you may need to make quarterly estimated payments to avoid penalties.

💡 What to do now:
If you missed the 9/15 deadline, make your payment ASAP to minimize penalties and interest. The IRS doesn’t wait — and neither should you!

✅ Stay ahead by marking your calendar for the next deadline: January 15, 2026.

Today, we remember. 🇺🇸

I will never forget looking out my classroom window and seeing what was happening.
September 11, 2001 is a day that changed everything — a moment etched in memory forever.

We honor the lives lost, the bravery shown, and the unity that followed.
May we continue to remember and reflect.

📌 Tax Tip Thursday
Topic: Owner Distributions – Know What’s Allowed!

💼 Sole Proprietors & Single-Member LLCs
You don’t take distributions—you take owner draws. These aren’t taxable income to you, but the business’s net profit is taxed on your personal return.

🏢 Partnerships & Multi-Member LLCs
Distributions are based on your ownership percentage and the partnership agreement. You’re taxed on your share of profits whether or not you take a distribution.

🏛️ S Corporations
Owners can take reasonable salaries (W-2 wages) and distributions. Distributions aren’t subject to self-employment tax—but don’t skip the salary! The IRS watches this closely.

🏙️ C Corporations
Distributions are called dividends and are taxed twice—once at the corporate level and again on your personal return. Plan carefully to avoid double taxation.

Tax Tip Thursday 💡

Business owners: Are you paying yourself the right way? Here's how it works depending on your entity type:

👤 Sole Proprietor – You don’t take a paycheck. You take an owner’s draw from profits.

👥 Partnership – You receive your share of profits and may get guaranteed payments for services.

🏢 S Corporation – You must pay yourself a reasonable salary through payroll, and you can also take distributions.

Getting this wrong can lead to IRS penalties. Let’s make sure you’re set up right!
