Dear Valued Client,

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that Monday, January 26, 2026, will be the official start of the 2026 tax season. On this date, the IRS will begin accepting and processing 2025 individual federal tax returns.

Refund Timing

While the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, refund timing can vary. Taxpayers should avoid relying on a specific refund date for major purchases or bill payments. Refunds may take longer if:

The return contains errors or missing information

Additional review is needed due to identity theft or fraud concerns

A refund is requested by paper check, which may take up to an additional six weeks

Earned Income & Child Tax Credits (PATH Act)

Under the PATH Act, the IRS cannot issue refunds for returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February. The IRS must hold the entire refund, not just the credit portion, until the required review is completed.
Warm regards,
G and A Tax and Accounting, Inc.

New savings account program for kids

Starting with the 2025 tax year, the U.S. government created a new type of tax-advantaged savings account for children called a Trump Account (established by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed in 2025).
🧒 Important details
• These accounts aren’t a direct cash payment to parents — the $1,000 goes into an investment account for the child’s future.
• The money grows tax-deferred, meaning taxes are generally paid when the money is withdrawn (similar to a retirement account).
• The first accounts are expected to be established in mid-2026 (accounts open), with election starting with 2025 tax filings.
• This is not a refundable tax credit you file for on your tax return; it’s a benefit tied to setting up the new account.
📊 Is it “free money”?
Sort of — the $1,000 seed contribution is free if you enroll your eligible child’s account, but it’s invested for long-term growth and not cash you spend immediately.
📌 Who qualifies
• U.S. children born 2025–2028 (Jan 1, 2025–Dec 31, 2028) with a valid SSN. Parents/guardians must open and manage the account until the child is an adult.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released adjustments to tax brackets for 2025, adding thousands of dollars to most marginal tax brackets, and potentially protecting more of your income from taxes this year. The roughly 2.7% inflation adjustment is lower than the 5.4% increase for 2024, and much lower than the 7% increase for 2023.

Additionally, the standard deduction will rise. For married couples the bump up is $800 to $30,000. For single filers, it's an increase of $400 to $15,000.
