Some people spend too much.

Others become so focused on protecting their wealth that they struggle to use it at all.

They reach retirement with sufficient resources but still feel guilty booking the trip, helping family, or spending on something meaningful.

A financial plan isn't successful simply because the number gets bigger.
It should help answer another question:
What is this money for?

Sometimes good planning means saving more.
Sometimes it means giving yourself permission to spend.

Traditional legacy planning often focuses on what happens after you're gone.

But I raise a different question.

What if some of your wealth could create more impact while you're still here to see it?

If your financial plan supports it, helping an adult child with a home, creating experiences with grandchildren, supporting education, or giving to causes you care about may have a very different impact today than an inheritance decades later.

It's the idea of giving with a "warm hand."

Not because everyone should give money away early.

But because wealth isn't only about accumulation.

It's also about intentional use.

đź“– Explore how values can shape financial decisions in The Fearless Wealth Plan, available now on Amazon.

Individual circumstances vary. Consult appropriate financial, tax and legal professionals before making gifting or estate planning decisions.

Because that's exactly what your brain was built to do.

I tell a story in The Fearless Wealth Plan about walking the Camino de Santiago with my 10-year-old son.

When a car approached, my son's instinct was sometimes to panic and run away from me into the road instead of toward me to safety.

Fear said: RUN.

That reaction makes sense when physical danger is approaching.

Investing is different.

When markets fall sharply, the same survival instinct can make selling feel like protection. But reacting to fear can mean selling after prices have already fallen and missing the recovery that follows.

Fear isn't evidence that your plan has stopped working.

Sometimes it's simply evidence that you're human.

You already know how to take care of your teeth.

Brush.

Floss.

Repeat.

Knowing isn't the hard part. Doing it consistently is. I make the same comparison with investing. Some of the most useful financial behaviors aren't secrets at all. Saving consistently, staying diversified, reinvesting dividends, rebalancing your porftolio regularly and giving a strategy enough time to work aren't particularly exciting.

And that's exactly why we're constantly tempted to replace them with something new.
Good financial habits can be easy to understand and difficult to practice.

đź“– The Fearless Wealth Plan is about closing that gap.

Safety isn't always what it feels like.

An investment that barely moves may feel reassuring. But retirement can last decades, and the cost of living doesn't stop rising just because you've stopped working. That creates a different kind of risk. The risk that your money doesn't grow enough to support the life you're planning for.

In The Fearless Wealth Plan, I explore an important distinction: feeling safe and being financially prepared are not always the same thing.

The goal isn't to take unnecessary risk. It's to understand which risks actually matter for your goals, timeline, and future purchasing power.

Sometimes the strategy that moves more today may be designed to solve a risk that won't become obvious for another 20 years.

The Fearless Wealth Plan is available now on Amazon.

Educational purposes only. Investing involves risk. This is not individualized financial advice.

Before asking where your money should go, it helps to ask what you want it to do.

Maybe it’s more time with family. More freedom. Travel. Generosity. Faith. An earlier retirement.

Those priorities give the numbers meaning and help make financial decisions clearer.

That’s why values come first. The plan should support the life you actually want to live.

Explore more of this values-first approach in The Fearless Wealth Plan, available on Amazon.

Complicated doesn’t automatically mean better.

In investing, a strategy can sound impressive because it has more moving parts. But if you don’t understand what you own or why you own it, staying disciplined can become much harder when the market gets uncomfortable.

My point is simple: long-term investing is often less about finding the next shiny opportunity and more about following a strategy you can actually stick with.

Simple can still take discipline. That’s the part that matters.

A portfolio without a purpose is just a collection of numbers.
That's why I like to start financial planning in an unexpected place.

Understanding Your Values.

Things like:
Family
Freedom
Faith
Experiences
Generosity
Time

Once you understand what money is actually supposed to accomplish, financial decisions become easier to evaluate. The question changes from:
"Will this make me more money?" to: "Does this move me closer to the life I said mattered?"
That's the foundation of the planning philosophy behind The Fearless Wealth Plan.

đź“– If you want your financial plan to start with your life instead of your portfolio, the book is available now on Amazon.

A large inheritance, settlement, or business sale can bring opportunity, but it can also bring a lot of pressure.

When the stakes feel high, fear of making the wrong decision can leave people frozen. That’s why the first step doesn’t always have to be investing right away.

Start by learning what you have, understanding your options, and getting clear on what the money needs to support.

When the market gets uncomfortable, doing something can feel safer than doing nothing. But fear can push us toward decisions we wouldn’t make with a clear head.

When I was walking the Camino de Santiago earlier this year with my son- he's 10 years old- if a loud car was coming close and quickly on the path, he would sometimes panic and attempt to run in a direction away from me, as opposed to closer to me, where it was safer.

Investing can create that same knee-jerk reaction. A solid plan gives you something to come back to before emotion takes over.

The goal isn’t to ignore risk. It’s to make decisions with the long term in mind.
