MSEA's May Lunch & Learn featuring Steven Walker Esq. and "Advances in Federal & California Tax: Recent Tax Court Cases" was a great success. Building knowledge and networks along the way. Join us June 25th for the Annual Meeting and the installation of the 2026/2027 board at Missioneas.org.

Greetings to all MSEA Members,

Congratulations on surviving tax season. I’m sure some of you still have some extensions to work on, but the bulk of it should be done. So, it’s time to look ahead to the rest of the year.

MSEA will continue with our monthly luncheons, coupled with a couple of hours of continuing education. Due to conflicts with other groups, we have changed the monthly meetings at the Three Flames restaurant to the 3rd Thursday of each month, except in June, which will be on the 4th Thursday (June 25) because of a conflict with the last day of the CSEA Super Seminar in Reno. (June 16-18.) May’s meeting will feature attorney Steven Walker discussing Advances in Federal and California Recent Tax Court Cases.

MSEA will also be bringing back from hiatus our famous Mini Seminars (“Minis”) during the summer. Watch for more information to be released soon about the Minis.

Our June 25th lunch meeting is the MSEA Annual Meeting, which will feature the installation of the new 2026-2027 officers of the MSEA Board, and a vote on several MSEA bylaw revisions.

There are still a couple of opportunities open for you to serve on the MSEA Board. If you are interested in being a member of the MSEA Board, let us know soon, as nominations are due soon.

And don’t forget the CSEA Super Seminar on June 16-18 at the Peppermill Hotel in Reno. This is a chance to increase your knowledge base, network with others, visit vendors, and earn a lot of continuing education hours.

Sincerely,
Colin J Ford, EA

Greetings to all MSEA Members,

I hope you are keeping your head above water during the hectic business of this tax season.

In the last few weeks, many of us have received phishing emails that look almost real. Just a reminder to be extremely cautious if a phishing email looks fishy!

If you can take a moment to report it to the IRS, hopefully, they will eventually be reduced or eliminated. You have several options to deal with phishing emails or texts.

The IRS has instructions at: How to forward the header of a phishing email | Internal Revenue Service . Or forward email to the IRS Stakeholder Liaison: [email protected] with a forward of what it is you are sending.

Remember the useful tools and information on our website at MSEA.org and the roundtables and chats available through CSEA to help you during tax seasons.

It also looks like there is now legislation to allow EA’s to prepare Oregon returns without additional certification. See NAEA's News & Updates announcement below.

Keep smiling, it will make tax season a lot better!

Sincerely,

Colin J Ford, EA
