“I was ready to call it quits and say, maybe entrepreneurship is not for me.”

That’s how our co-founder, Max, describes the period after his business ended in bankruptcy.

At the time, he and Elena had one baby at home and another on the way. The job market was tough, nobody was hiring, and starting over wasn’t exactly part of some perfect business plan.

It was survival.

But that difficult chapter ended up becoming the start of something new.

Max often says that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and for him, that experience reinforced it. Losing a business forced him to question entrepreneurship altogether, but it also gave him the perspective to build differently the next time around.

That next chapter eventually led to BooXkeeping.

There’s a lot more behind that journey — from their first business, to bankruptcy, to rebuilding from the ground up — and we’ll be sharing more of Max and Elena’s story in the coming weeks.

That’s one lesson our co-founder, Elena, carried with her from her first business.

Before BooXkeeping, Elena and Max built a landscaping company together. The business was profitable, but it wasn’t something they truly loved doing — and eventually, that chapter ended in bankruptcy.

Getting back on their feet meant more than simply starting another company.

It meant building something they actually believed in.

For Elena, passion doesn’t make entrepreneurship easy. But when the difficult days come — and they always do — having a real connection to what you’re building gives you a reason to keep going.
