📊 It's budget season, and here's one step HOA boards shouldn't skip.

Before you approve next year's budget, pull out your most recent reserve study and compare it to what's actually in the budget.

It's easy to keep assessments flat to make homeowners happy this year. But underfunded reserves have a way of catching up with a community. When that roof, paving project or pool resurfacing comes due, the gap often turns into a special assessment, and nobody wants to deliver that news.

A quick check before you vote:
✅ Pull your most recent reserve study
✅ Compare planned contributions to its recommendations
✅ Ask what happens if a major component needs replacing early

A little planning now saves your homeowners a big surprise later.

Last week the HOAAS team took a break and traded spreadsheets for game day. We got together for a baby shower edition of Coworker Clash with Confetti to celebrate two pieces of very happy news: Rhode and Whitney are both expecting! 🍼🍼

There was trivia, plenty of trash talk, and prizes for the winners. Mostly there was a lot of laughing together, which a remote and spread-out team doesn't get to do often enough.

Time like this is how we stay connected as people, and it shows up in the work. We came back to our desks recharged and ready to take great care of the associations we serve. ❤️

Today we celebrated 13 years with Bre Baker on the HOA Accounting Services team, currently as a Senior Staff Accountant, Budget Guru and Corporate Billing Reviewer. Bre has been consistent with her motivation, support for the team, growth in different departments and support of her team.
