Tax Tip ✍️- Extensions ↔️

It has been almost one month since April 15th and this is just a friendly reminder to those who filed an extension and still have an unpaid balance.

The failure to file penalty applies if you don't file your tax return by the due date which also includes extensions. However, interest and penalties may still continue to accrue on unpaid balances even after being filed.

To help minimize additional charges, it's encouraged to file your return on time and pay any remaining balance as soon as possible.

Paying your taxes in full and on time is always the best option. If you're unable to do so, the IRS offers payment plan options to help you stay compliant. Keep in mind, payment plans do NOT eliminate interest or penalties, so paying as much as you can upfront is still beneficial.

Tax Tip ✍️- Avoid Fraudulent Tax Preparers ❌

A federal case out of San Antonio shows the risks of working with the wrong tax preparer. The individual was found guilty of preparing false tax returns that included fraudulent deductions and credits, harming many clients by abusing their trust. Look out for promises of unusually large refunds, charging fees based on their refund, not providing a copy of your tax return, and lack of proper credentials or transparency.
