FYI:
There's no current end date for the IRS hiring freeze. So as of now IRS experiencing staffing shortages, and the ability to process the returns as quickly as in previous years is NOT YET in jeopardy!

Most tax refunds are issued within 21 days of filing, but the exact timing could vary depending on if you file electronically or by mail or your return needs corrections.

So, if you anticipate a refund this year, filing now would be the ideal way.

The IRS estimates it will begin accepting and processing new returns the week of Jan. 27, 2025 though an official start date hasn't been announced yet. The agency says most taxpayers will get their refunds within 21 days of when they file electronically, barring any issues with processing their tax returns.
