Have you received a CP53E notice from the IRS? You’re not alone. 📬

We’re seeing an increase in CP53E letters as the IRS ramps up efforts to move taxpayers from paper checks to direct deposit.

Here’s what’s happening 👇

🔹 The IRS is sending millions of notices requesting updated or verified banking information.
🔹 Some taxpayers are receiving these letters even when they owe a balance due to automated system flags for missing or mismatched bank info.
🔹 Others may receive the notice because a direct debit payment was rejected by their bank.

⚠️ Important: Some fake versions of this notice are circulating.

What you should do:
✔️ Verify the notice through your official IRS Online Account
✔️ Confirm whether you actually have a balance due or refund issue
✔️ Update banking information if a payment failed
✔️ Be cautious of QR codes or phone numbers that seem suspicious

The IRS will generally direct taxpayers to IRS.gov rather than asking for sensitive information through unofficial channels.

As IRS automation increases, we expect more notices like this—even when no action is ultimately needed.

Update on IRS penalty relief 👇

Starting with the 2026 filing season, the IRS will automatically apply First-Time Abatement (FTA) for eligible taxpayers. If you qualify for relief on failure-to-file or failure-to-pay penalties, you no longer need to submit Form 843.

We’re also seeing real-world impact:
💡 Clients with tax liabilities over $1,000 have received automatic adjustments and refunds on penalties already paid.

What about prior years?

⚠️ You can still qualify for FTA, but you’ll typically need to request it (by phone, written request, or sometimes Form 843).

If you’ve paid penalties before, it’s worth taking another look. You may be eligible for money back.

📌 Minnesota Property Tax Refund Reminder

The deadline to file for the 2025 Minnesota Property Tax Refund (Form M1PR) is August 15, 2026.

While August 15 is the standard deadline, you still have up to one year after to file and claim your refund—meaning you have until August 15, 2027 for the 2025 tax year.

⏳ Also, if you have not yet filed for the 2024 tax year, you have until August 15, 2026 to submit your claim.
