The IRS encourages everyone to use the Withholding Calculator to perform a quick “paycheck checkup.” This is even more important this year because of recent changes to the tax law for 2018. Keeping the same deductions as in 2017 my not be to your benefit.

Q & A on audits
Q: Are nonprofits required to have an audit?
A: Usually.
Explanation: In general, the requirement for an audit is set by the state in which the nonprofit is incorporated. In Minnesota, a charitable organization with total annual revenue of over $750,000 must file an audited financial statement prepared by an independent CPA.
There are other circumstances that may compel an independent audit of an organization. Some donors will require it as a condition of their contribution. And organizations expending $750,000 or more in federal funds will also be required

The IRS has issued new withholding tables to adjust for recent changes in the tax law. Many people will see their take-home pay go up!

This is a good time to actually LOOK at your pay stubs. Compare to previous stubs and see where the changes are taking place. As your employer about any deductions you do not understand. “I look at my pay stub every pay period,” said no one ever.

Then check again at the end of February. The IRS says they will update their withholding calculator so you can make sure you are withholding enough for 2018 and all the changes. To help people determine their withholding, the IRS is revising the withholding tax calculator on IRS.gov. Taxpayers are encouraged to use the calculator to adjust their withholding once it is released. If you want to withhold more or less, ask your employer for a new W-4.
