Our office is closed through April 7th to comply with Governor Pritzker's "shelter in place" order. The IRS has extended the filing and payment deadline from April 15th to July 15th. For our clients we will continue to process payroll, maintain accounting records and prepare income tax returns from home. We will be checking email regularly.

Please see one addition to the previous flowchart. Some taxpayers that will be unable to itemize deductions in 2018, but can itemize in 2017, could also benefit by prepaying their 2018 real estate taxes prior to Dec 31, 2017.

The new tax law passed will cap the deduction for state and local income taxes to $10,000 starting in 2018. For this reason it will be beneficial for many taxpayers to prepay their 2018 real estate taxes (prior to December 31, 2017) and take the deduction on their 2017 income tax return.
