Michigan Treasury Letter Error — What You Need to Know
Michigan taxpayers have received erroneous “Notice of Adjustment” letters from the Michigan Department of Treasury due to a system change. About 27,000 letters were sent between April 7 and April 28, 2026, and in some cases between March 30 and April 17, 2026, depending on the batch WZZM13+2.
What the Letters Said
The letters incorrectly indicated that:
Your 2025 tax return had been adjusted.
You may have estimated payments due or credit carryforwards.
In some cases, they claimed refunds had been cut or that you owed money, even though your bank records and payment history showed otherwise Hoodline+1.
Why the Error Happened
The Michigan Treasury confirmed the issue was confined to the letters themselves, not the underlying tax filings or prepayments. The problem was caused by an unintended change during a system update WZZM13+2. Your actual tax account in Michigan Treasury eServices remains correct.
