Friendly PSA to my high earners and tax clients 😅

I ❤️ yall but…….

Please go check your W-4s. Yes… today.

If you put Head of Household and dependents on your W-4, your job is going to take little to no federal taxes out of your check. That means you’re already getting most of your money in your paycheck every week or every two weeks.

So when tax season comes and you’re expecting a $8,000 refund, but your job already gave it to you all year… please don’t look at your tax preparer like we did something wrong. 😂

The math is simple:
More money in your checks during the year = smaller refund (or break even) at tax time.

If you’re one of my clients, I will gladly help you fix or review your W-4 for free so you understand exactly what’s happening with your taxes. ☺️

Just don’t wait until April to ask me where the refund went. 👀

The number of people across the state of Michigan getting their tax refunds intercepted by Michigan Unemployment is honestly crazy. It’s really sad because a lot of people were depending on that money — bills, taking care of their kids, catching up from the holidays, moving into a new place, just trying to get a fresh start.

All I can say is… I’m glad my people listened.

When I made that post about completing the waiver and told y’all exactly what to do, you moved. And because of that, my clients were still able to receive their refunds.

That’s why I always say — don’t ignore the updates. When I post something, it’s for a reason.

I don’t know how the rest of this year or next year is going to play out, but when the time comes, we’ll plan for it like we always do.

Just keep watching my posts. I got you. 💙💰

🚨 MY THEORY ON STATE REFUNDS BEING DELAYED 🚨

This is just my professional opinion based on what I’m seeing…

I’ve had several adjustment letters come through lately, and the common theme is this:

Offset debts...and

The state is heavily fact-checking income before releasing refunds.

If you forgot to include income — even by mistake — they’re catching it. That includes:

✔️ Unemployment benefits
✔️ Any unreported W-2s
✔️ 1099 income
✔️ DHS cash benefits

Now here’s where people get confused…

Some of these benefits may not be federally taxable, BUT the state can still use that income when calculating credits like:

• Homestead Credit
• Home Heating Credit
• Other income-based credits

So even if it’s “non-taxable,” it can still affect how much you receive back.

If something was missing, they’re adjusting it before issuing the refund — which can delay or reduce what you were expecting.

Again, this is my theory based on what I’m seeing come across my desk.

Accuracy matters more than speed. If it was reported somewhere, best believe they’re matching it.

Let’s make something very clear this tax season.

If a tax preparer spends hours reviewing your documents, pulling transcripts, calling the IRS, fixing prior-year mistakes, preparing amendments, or completing your return — that is a service.

Services require payment.

This is a business, not a hobby. Time is billable. Knowledge is billable. Compliance work is billable.

If you decide not to move forward after the work has already been completed, that does not cancel the time that was invested. Even if it was 30 minutes.

Going forward, unpaid work will result in invoices — and yes, collections if necessary. I believe in transparency, professionalism, and clear expectations on both sides.

Respect the profession. Respect the process. Respect the invoice.

Today is a federal holiday, so the PATH Act hold will not lift today. The IRS and tax banks are closed. When the 16th falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day — which is tomorrow.

IMF (Individual Master File) processing runs daily except on weekends. Some transactions post daily instead of during the weekly cycle.

Your IMF cycle date is an 8-digit code (YYYYWWDD):
01 = Friday
02 = Monday
03 = Tuesday
04 = Wednesday
05 = Thursday

Keep checking your transcripts for code 846 (Refund Issued). If you know your cycle code, you’ll know what day your account updates.

Be patient — it’s coming. 💰

Y’all, I’m saying this with love… please stop taking tax advice from everybody.

Facebook groups, friends, family, and some of these so-called “tax preparers” be talking with confidence and zero real knowledge. I see a lot of people do NOT understand tax law.

Wrong advice during tax season will have YOU dealing with audits, penalties, and stress later. And the same people who told you what to do won’t be there when the letters start coming.

Trust me — I’ve had people from Saginaw to all over the United States contact me to clean up tax messes caused by bad advice… and half the time they can’t even afford to fix it after the damage is done.

I’ve been doing this for years. Tax law is not opinion-based — it’s compliance-based. Experience and due diligence matter.

Valentine’s Day is over… let’s get those returns filed the right way ❤️📑
