Giving Tuesday is December 1.

Generosity is rarely a planning problem. How you give usually is.

Appreciated stock instead of cash. Several years of intended gifts
bunched into a single tax year. A distribution sent straight from an
IRA to the charity.

Each route changes the arithmetic in a different direction, and each
has its own eligibility rules. The amount you intended to give
doesn't change — what reaches the charity, and what it costs you,
can.

Guanill Wealth Management does not offer tax planning services.

The conversation nobody schedules.

November puts families in the same room. It's an imperfect moment
for a hard conversation — and for many families, the only one they
get all year.

Three questions worth raising while everyone's together:

— Do your parents have current documents?
— Does anyone know where they're kept?
— Who steps in if someone can't decide for themselves?

You don't need the answers at dinner. You just need the subject
opened, so it isn't being opened for the first time in a hospital
corridor.

Money is the means. Not the point.

We spend a great deal of time on allocations, tax brackets and
withdrawal sequencing. It's detailed work and it matters.

But all of it exists to serve something much simpler — the table
you'll sit at this month, and the people who'll be around it.

That's the actual objective. Everything else is just arithmetic in
service of it.

The window is half shut.

Medicare Open Enrollment closes December 7. After that, most people
are locked into whatever plan they have until next October.

Six weeks sounds like plenty. In practice it's two holidays, a
mailbox full of plan documents nobody opened, and a deadline that
doesn't negotiate.

If you haven't looked at the Annual Notice of Change your plan
mailed you, that's where to start. It's the document that tells you
what's different next year.

It's 3.6%.

The Social Security Administration announced next year's
cost-of-living adjustment on October 14. It's the largest increase
since 2023 — the average retired-worker benefit rises to roughly
$2,170 a month.

It takes effect with January payments. Your personalized notice,
with your exact amount, typically arrives in early December.

One caveat worth holding onto: a raise and a raise you keep aren't
the same thing. Medicare premiums come out of the same cheque, and
the official 2027 Part B figure hasn't been published yet.

Worth looking at both numbers together once they're both in hand.

We had another full house at our Empowering Women, Pieces of the Future event. And many brought their spouses 😂. What’s better than educating people on money matters, tax strategies, and retirement planning while breaking bread together? 🍷 🍝 We don’t know what we don’t know and knowledge is King 👑 Piatti Sacramento Guanill Wealth Management

The calendar fills from here.

Year-end planning works best with weeks to spare, not days. Between
Thanksgiving and New Year's, everyone's schedule compresses — ours,
your CPA's, your custodian's processing times.

A complimentary conversation now leaves room to actually act on
whatever comes out of it.

One conversation. Your questions, your numbers, an honest read on
where you stand. No obligation to go further than that.

Portfolios drift.

You chose an allocation. Then the market spent nine months quietly
rearranging it — whatever ran hardest now occupies more of your
portfolio than you ever agreed to.

That isn't a failure. It's just what markets do.

But it does mean the risk you're carrying today may not be the risk
you signed up for back in January. And drift tends to run in the
least convenient direction: it quietly concentrates you in whatever
has already had its run.

Q4 is a sensible time to look.

Finish the year on purpose.

Contributions to a workplace retirement plan come out of the
paychecks you have left in the year — and by October, there aren't
many of those left.

If you meant to increase your deferral this year, the window to
make it count is now measured in pay periods, not months. Two or
three adjustments at this point move a lot less than the same
decision made in February.

Worth a look at your most recent pay stub this week. It's a five
minute task that only gets less effective the longer it waits.

Medicare Open Enrollment: October 15 through December 7.

Seven weeks, once a year, to review your coverage for next year.

During the window you can switch between Original Medicare and
Medicare Advantage, change your Part D prescription plan, or move
between Advantage plans.

Here's the part people miss: plans change their drug lists,
networks and costs every single year. The plan that fit you last
year may not be the one that fits you next year — and if you do
nothing, you're usually renewed into whatever it became.

Read the Annual Notice of Change your plan sent you. That document
exists precisely to tell you what's different.
