We agree. Gov. Pritzker should opt-in to the federal scholarship program.

Senate Republicans gathered at the Illinois Capitol on May 21 to renew calls for Governor JB Pritzker to opt Illinois into the new federal tax credit scholarship program aimed at expanding educational opportunities for students and families.

No tax in Illinois has increased more during the Pritzker administration than property taxes.

Pritzker wants to give Megaproject developers property tax freezes for up to 45 years, but has done nothing for average taxpayers.

"Grifting off taxpayers via property tax schemes is a practice that goes way back for Pritzker, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that he's seeking to extend these property tax breaks to other billionaires. If he gets his way, Illinois residents will be stuck paying for these sweetheart deals while billionaires get a break."

The bill is one of the most egregious examples of the grift between professional sports teams and state and local governments.

First, Illinois politicians let the state’s school-choice scholarship program expire.

Now Gov. Pritzker is keeping Illinois families locked out of the new federal tax-credit scholarship program unless he opts Illinois in.

Then they turn around and ask Lake County families to pay even more.

They are calling the proposed 1% countywide sales tax hike “property tax relief.”

But under Illinois law, property tax relief is not an eligible use of the 1% countywide school sales tax.

They are using Lake County residents’ pain from paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation to raise their taxes even more. That is a disgusting insult to taxpayers.

It also cannot be spent in the classroom on instruction, textbooks, curriculum, teacher pay, or general operating costs.

So what are taxpayers really getting?

A massive sales tax hike on top of the highest property taxes in America, with no additional classroom funding.

Lake County families cannot afford another tax hike, especially when private companies and consultants stand to profit while taxpayers are stuck paying the bill.

Tell local school boards: Vote NO on putting the 1% sales tax hike on the ballot.

Affordability is critical especially here in Illinois!

There is a broad consensus amongst Americans across the country that housing is unaffordable. The median single-family home now costs five times the median household income, the age of the median first-time homebuyer is now 40, and the United States has a housing shortage of roughly six million home...
