Today, August 26, is Women’s Equality Day.

And since we are talking about equality, it is worth drawing attention to the financial gaps that still persist for women. As an advisor, I see these gaps far too often, which is why I continue to share this message.

Women still face hard financial realities despite all the progress that has been made.

In 2024, women working full-time, year-round earned about 81 cents for every dollar men earned. And that gap widened even further in 2025.

And over the course of a career, this financial gap adds up drastically:

- Smaller paychecks
- Lower retirement contributions
- Reduced Social Security benefits

On top of this, financial gaps compound, and not in a woman’s favor.

Pair that with the fact that women live longer than men, meaning more expenses, more health care costs, and a higher chance of managing those years on a single income.

Let us also not forget that women are more likely to step away from work to care for a child or aging parent. In 2025 alone, more than 455,000 women left the workforce, and among those who left voluntarily, 42% cited caregiving as the main reason.

Why would I bring this up on a day that is meant to celebrate women? To make sure we are all aware so change can happen and to have the right plans in place while we wait for that change. A strategy that doesn’t account for a longer life expectancy, an earnings gap, or a potential career break may be missing something important

These are the kinds of details that are easy to overlook, but they can make a real difference when you’re looking at the full picture for your household.

I care about this topic greatly and am here to help.
