Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. New year is almost here which means we are getting ready for another tax season. Current administration is keep trying to appeal ACA also known Obama care, but IRS still forcing current law. This means we still pay our share of insurance payment if we don't have health insurance coverage during 2017. There is open enrollment for 2018 currently underway. Although, we not sure how law would change in future it's best to have health insurance coverage for you and your family.

I am sharing IRS publication on ACA. This article have information how much you would pay if you don't have health insurance. In 2017, maximum $695 per person and $347.50 per child, and family can't pay more than $2,085. Generally it's 2.5% of income above filing threshold. Filing thresholds are for single 10,350, Head of Household 13,350, Married Filing Joint 20,700, Married Filing Separately 4,050, Qualified Widower with dependent is 16,650. Please read the article for more information.

Happy New Year!

New year means another tax season upon us.

This year IRS officially opens tax season on Jan 23rd. There are some changes related to new legislation PATH (protecting americans from tax hikes) act and some refunds will be delayed till February 15, 2017. Specially those returns claiming EITC (earned income tax credit) and Child Tax Credit. Also, due to new president elect Congress will not discuss or finalize any expiring credits and new tax law till inauguration date. IRS is very strict on who can claim EITC and child tax credit. If you are eligible and will claim these credits please remember, all eligible qualifying child must be lived with you in US for more than six months and eligible qualifying child must be related to you, must be under age 16 for child tax credit, under or at age 19, if student under 23 for EITC and you will need documents to proof. If your qualifying child not lived with you more than six months, not related, not meet gross income or age test then you can't claim the credit.

The PATH Act requires that certain ITINs expire on Jan. 1, 2017. Any ITIN not used on a tax return at least once in the past three years and any ITIN with middle digits of either 78 or 79 (9NN-78-NNNN or 9NN-79-NNNN) must be renewed before a return can be processed. Anyone filing a tax return with an expired ITIN could experience return processing and refund delay as well as denial of some tax benefits until the ITIN is renewed.

Also, if you need to issue 1099 Misc to anyone you must to issue it by January 31, 2017 and have to file Form 1096, 1099 to IRS by same date. Please note that IRS changed rules on filing to IRS deadline from February 28, 2017 to January 31.

As part of Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) if you or your family don't have health insurance you must pay penalty and penalty increased this year 2.5% of Adjusted gross income but not more than $2.085.
