If you are a business owner and you issue someone a 1099 at the end of the year they are NOT your employee. They are an independent contractor/vendor in contract with you to provide a service. Technically speaking you should have an independent contractor agreement on file. Avoid lawsuits and heavy IRS penalties by putting someone on the payroll if you consider them as an employee and treat them as and employees
Who Gets a 1099?
Before issuing a 1099-MISC, you should determine: 1) whether the person is legally an employee or an independent contractor; 2) whether or not the person/business is a corporation; and 3) whether your payments to the person/business exceed the $600 reporting threshold.

Determining Contractor Status

If you try to treat individuals who should be classified as employees as contractors, you could incur severe penalties at the hands of the IRS. It is therefore important to clearly understand who is an employee and who is an independent contractor, and treat them accordingly.

If the total of your itemized deductions is less the than the standard deduction for your filing status listed below then you will want to take the standard deduction. For example: You are a single filer who paid some medical expenses out of pocket, donated to a charity, gave tithes to a church, and paid mortgage interest. If the total of those deductions is less than the standard deduction of $12,550 for 2021 then you will want to take the standard deduction instead of itemizing deductions because it is more.
