Today on the Business Spotlight, Eric Hutchins speaks with Bob Winter, Chris Meskan, and Lisa Litwiler of Charlie’s Tax Service in rural Reynolds. They will talk about Charlie’s Tax Service serving residents in the same location for 53 years, the types of returns they do and how they look out for the farmer, and the different ways to get your tax documents submitted for fast and accurate filing.

If you filed an extension for 2024, you have until October 15th to file your return.

Please make an appointment or drop off your documents as soon as possible so we can get your return prepared and filed before the due date.

If you have not received your 2024 refund and have gotten a letter or notice from the IRS or the state, you will need to respond as instructed in the letter or notice so they can verify your identity. You will need a copy of your 2023 return and your 2023 tax documents when you call. The processing of your return may be held up until they receive a response from you.

If you have not received a letter but still have not gotten your refund call 1-800-829-7650 and request to talk to an agent. To call to verify your identity the number is 1-800-830-5084.

Sorry for the hassle but the IRS will only speak with the taxpayer listed first on the return.

If you have a return to pick up and sign at Charlie's Tax Service or you need to file an extension, you basically have Monday and Tuesday to do so to meet the April 15th filing due date.

If you have a business that is filing as a Partnership or Corporation you are required to file a BOI report (Beneficial Ownership Information) before January 1, 2024. This is a new requirement that is supposed to prevent illegal transactions such as money laundering and requires all "beneficial owners" to provide information to the IRS. There is a hefty fine if you don't comply.

Note: If you are filing as a "sole proprietor" (Schedule C on your tax return) then you do not need to file this report.

You can file this report online using the following link:
https://www.fincen.gov/boi

It mainly is giving them names and addresses and driver license info for all of the owners of the business and there is a demo video on the web-site on how to file the report.

Tip: You will need a picture of a driver's license of each owner to upload to the report

A reminder to our clients that filed for an extension on their 2023 return - the due date to file is October 15.

If you are ready for us to complete your return please call or drop off your documents as soon as possible.

We all get real busy with harvest in October so please don't wait until the last minute.

A huge thank you to all of our clients for choosing Charlie's Tax Service to prepare your 2023 Income Tax return! We know there are a lot of other places out there you can go to and we really appreciate you choosing us.

We are currently working on the returns that we filed extensions on that are now ready to finish and then will be working on amendments.

If you have not been in to pick up and pay for your 2023 return please do so soon. Also if we have already e-filed your return and you have not made a payment for our services please contact us or mail in your payment.

If you happen to get a letter from the IRS or Illinois DOR, please let us know when you get it so we can determine what the issue is and help you with a response.

On March 20th we remembered the passing of our founder Charlie Wood and celebrated his 1st anniversary in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It hard to believe that it has been a year already.

There are only 3 full weeks until Tax Day - April 15! If we have not prepared your 2023 return yet we encourage you to call to make any appointment or drop off your documents soon. Just call 309-372-8868 to make an appointment.

We will stop taking any more appointments after April 9th so we can catch up on the drop-offs we have.

We cannot guarantee any returns dropped off after April 9th will be ready by April 15 but we will file the 6 month extension for the returns that we are not able to complete.

Also, if you have not picked up your completed return from us PLEASE come in and do so. Our file drawers are full!
